The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. Preferred Qualifications Position Summary

Assist farm personnel with the Day to Day operation of the Riverbend Farm and Rose Creek Farm including pasture development, hay collection & storage as well as equipment & facility maintenance. Adhering to animal welfare guidelines set by the Animal Use Committee and guidelines set by the National Research Council on care and use of animals, assist farm personnel in the care of all animals housed at both farms including cattle, horses, sheep, goats and other animals as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Thorough knowledge of beef cattle management and operations. Considerable knowledge of modern agricultural methods and farming practices. Considerable knowledge in the use and care of farm equipment, tractor implements, materials and maintenance techniques.

Ability to work effectively with researchers, administrative personnel, graduate students and co-workers. Ability to follow SOP’s and planned work objectives and communicate action plans to farm personnel and other critical personnel. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and direct work of subordinate personnel. Ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare reports.

Physical Demands

Sit, stand, bend, climb and reach for long periods of time.
Drive farm tractor for extended periods of time.
Lift up to 75 lbs without assistance.
Work outside in all weather conditions for extended periods of time.

Assist farm personnel with developing plans for improvements, land preparation, pasture development, fertilizing, planting crops, cultivation, harvesting, hay baling and storage. Following SOP’s, initiate plans and follow through to completion.

Selling, Buying, Shipping, Receiving, Housing & Medical Treatment of animals. Adheres to animal welfare guidelines set by the Animal Use Committee and guidelines set by the National Research Council on care and use of animals. Maintains up to date animal care records including inoculation, treatments, breeding, feed, production, etc.

Duties/Responsibilities

Maintains all farm equipment, vehicles, buildings, fence lines, pastures and pecan orchard. Keeps all farm machinery, equipment & vehicles serviced and in good working order. Directs the repair and maintenance of farm buildings, fence and property lines, pastures, and pecan orchard grove. Maintain records of time, equipment usage, service & repair, materials & supplies and prepare estimate of needs.

Ensures that bio-security is enforced at all times at Riverbend Farm. Maintains chemical right to know guidelines and the proper use thereof. Must report any and all breeches in bio-security to Supervisor immediately.
