Position Summary:

The Mohan Lab at the Odum School of Ecology, University of Georgia, is searching for a part-time lab technician to perform field and laboratory investigations of forest ecosystem interactions with changing environmental conditions. This job includes work in outdoor upland and swamp settings in the southeastern U.S. including very hot conditions replete with insects and other wildlife. Work in rain and other inclement weather is anticipated. Duties include maintaining an electrically-powered field experiment, digging and analyzing soil samples, measuring soil CO2 efflux, measuring trees over 50 feet in height, and lab work involving strong acids and other chemicals.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position:

BA/BS from an accredited institution, preferably in the sciences; at least 5 years of previous ecological research experience and a history of peer-reviewed scientific publication. Experience in a chemistry lab working with hazardous materials preferred. A valid drivers license and experience with driving larger vehicles (i.e., 15-passenger vans) is needed. Familiarity with plant and tree species of the eastern USA. Demonstrated experience working well with others in team setting, as well as independently. Analytical chemistry skills and knowledge are needed. Knowledge of electrical wiring and carpentry skills strongly preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and some knowledge of statistical analyses desired.

Physical Demands:

Willing to lift up to 50lbs, driving, hiking up to 4 miles per day in all types of weather.
