Preferred Qualifications Position Summary

Primary academic advisor for Honors and non-Honors students in Music. Arrange group registration sessions – linked to advising duties. Coordinate the Music Advisor Newsletter which is published twice a year (Fall and Spring semesters). Clear music students for registration as well as for applied instruction through CMS. Process graduation checks for music majors and minors. Backup to graduation and academic services offices. Process overrides for POD, POM, time conflicts, etc. Type letters for course deletions, course number changes and credit hour changes. Process section changes, late adds, transfer credit, and course challenge approval forms. Record and update student database. Compile information packets to hand out at summer orientation and advise new freshman/transfer students in June – August. Assist with the administration of undergraduate scholarships. Work the Associate Director on the undergraduate curriculum updates. Liaison with Registrar’s Office, Franklin College, Office of Admissions, Study-Abroad, Student Affairs, and Financial Aid Office.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Proficient in Word, IMS, Excel, Access and other office software.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, highly organized, professional attitude and appearance, attention to detail, team player, dependable.

Physical Demands

Sit at a desk for 7-8 hours.

Duties/Responsibilities

Primary academic advisor for Honors and non-Honors students in Music. Advise 200-250 music majors and minors each semester. Clear music students for registration as well as for applied instruction through CMS. Process graduation checks for music majors and minors. Responsible for managing curriculum/program updates to CAPA and the Bulletin. Duties related to this responsibility include initiating and coordinating faculty review/approval of course changes and new course proposals; assisting associate director in submitting proposals in CAPA; reviewing UGA Bulletin and submitting necessary program changes to reflect new courses and new or revised requirements. Backup to graduation and academic services offices. Process overrides for POD, POM, time conflicts, etc.

Process section changes, late adds, transfer credit, and course challenge approval forms. Record and update student database. Work with the Associate Director on the undergraduate curriculum updates. Liaison with Registrar’s Office, Franklin College, Office of Admissions, Study Abroad, Student Affairs, Financial Aid Office, and Office of Curriculum Systems. Other job assignments as designated by Director and Associate Directors.
