ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF BIOLOGY (HUMAN ANATOMY)
SCHOOL OF MATHEMATICS, SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING
10 MONTH, TENURE TRACK POSITION

	
This position may include a combination of day, evening, weekend, and extension site assignments.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Dean of the School of Mathematics, Science and Engineering, this is a non-tenure track, full time faculty position.The teaching assignment may consist of a combination of lecture and laboratory courses with a primary emphasis in Human Anatomy. All instructors are expected to be able to teach introductory non-majors' General Biology, lecture and lab. Faculty member will serve with other faculty members as a liaison between the Biology department, its students and allied health programs such as Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Surgical Technology, Paramedic and Emergency Medical Technology. SWC's Biology Department strives for academic excellence in its faculty and students. A new faculty member is expected to embrace this philosophy.The new faculty member is expected to participate in department, school and college committees, selected staff development and/or extracurricular activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree in any biological science OR a Bachelor's Degree in any biological science AND a Master's Degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, or Marine Science OR the equivalent, OR possession of a valid California Community College Instructor Credential in Biology.

Candidates must exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a rich and diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds, and those with disabilities. Experience working in a community with a similar diversity pattern as is found in the service area for Southwestern College is desirable as well as the ability to utilize teaching methods, techniques, and strategies appropriate for students for whom English is a second language.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Successful teaching experience in the biological sciences at the post-secondary level; interest in, commitment to, and enthusiasm for working as a member of a team committed to excellence in biology instruction; proficiency in the use of computer technology for lecture and lab applications, including multimedia presentation, data acquisition, and data analysis. Expertise in human cadaver dissection is desirable.

SALARY & BENEFITS:
Upon initial employment, full-time faculty members are placed on the salary schedule based upon years of experience and education. The maximum initial placement for experience is Step 6. Faculty members are encouraged to continue their professional development through additional study qualifying them for advancement on the salary schedule.
