Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, the Student Support Coordinator coordinates, implements, and assesses programs, services, and initiatives related to housing, food, and basic needs insecurities. The Student Support Coordinator will work from an evidence, research, and data driven perspective to build and sustain a program for students in need. Further collaboration with student leadership, other University departments and town of Amherst will be vital to success.
- Collaborates with student-led leadership focused on basic needs services and administration, particularly with graduate and undergraduate student government leadership, registered student organizations, and other sites of student advocacy.
- Manages, tracks, and maintains student records related to basic needs cases.
- Reviews case and student record data, and provides insight and recommendations based on trends and patterns.
- Researches best practices and national trends within and at the intersections of Basic Needs and Case Management, and identify areas of growth and learning opportunities.
- Provides semester and annual reporting.
- Responsible for education and outreach to students, faculty, staff, and community members. Participates in related department functions, such as community and program education. Provides support, including face-to-face meetings with undergraduate and graduate students.
- Designs, develops, and delivers specialized training's to the campus community regarding basic needs information, services, and opportunities.
- Coordinates with various campus offices to ensure coherent integration and education of campus and community resources for individual students who have challenges with basic needs.
- Tracks and evaluates outreach to campus constituencies and identifies areas of further training or heightened attention.
- Supervises student staff and volunteers and possibly professional staff.
- Understands responsibilities with respect to Title IX, Clery and other compliance requirements.
- Understands and adheres to appropriate ethical standards of professional and academic conduct.
- Understands responsibilities with respect to conflicts of interest and behaves in ways consistent both with law and with University policy.
- Serves in the on call rotation with the Dean on Call staff.
- Performs related duties as assigned or required to meet Department, Executive Area/Division, and University goals and objectives.
- Works in a highly collaboratively manner with other campus stakeholders to fulfill the mission of Student Affairs and Campus Life.
- Works collaboratively with divisional and campus staff and other stakeholders to integrate cross program activities and functions.
- Understands and contributes to implementation of departmental and institutional goals for achieving non-discrimination and creating a respectful, inclusive environment that is supportive of diversity.
- Uses access to sensitive and/or not yet public university related information only in the performance of the responsibilities of position, and exercises care to prevent unnecessary disclosure to others.
- Bachelor's degree in counseling, social work, higher education administration, college student personnel, or related field with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated ability to provide administrative case management, including direct contact with clients and other providers.
- Skilled in coordinating, directing, evaluating, and implementing programs, services, and initiatives for individuals with multiple personal and life challenges (preferably in a higher education setting.)
- Ability to communicate, engage, and develop rapport with individuals of diverse cultural, social, and religious backgrounds and varied age, gender, and sexual orientation.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external constituencies.
- Commitment to diversity, social justice, and cultural competence and the ability to work in a multicultural environment and the ability to foster cultural, racial, gender equality on a personnel and programmatic level.
- Demonstrated ability to lead programs to new levels of effectiveness and impact.
- Excellent writing, interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
- Strong knowledge and experience in the areas of health and wellness, student advocacy, food and housing insecurity, community support services and economic emergency management.
- Master's degree in counseling, social work, higher education administration, college student personnel or related field.
- Experience in higher education with student insecurity programs.
- Knowledge of available support resources in Western Massachusetts, or the experience to identify support services and make connections.
- Social work or counseling background helpful (does not provide clinical service.)
