The Center for Future Energy Systems (CFES) is seeking talented Research Staff. CFES’s mission is to work with NYS industry in the energy sector to develop & apply advanced energy technologies.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must possess, at minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in a technical area relevant to CFES research, including but not limited to electrical engineering (with a focus on power electronics, power systems, and/or control); material engineering, and mechanical engineering.

Additional opportunities exist for those with a relevant advanced degree, publication record, and/or significant additional years of paid professional experience in a related position.

Postdoctoral Research Associate applications are accepted here.

Preferred Qualifications

•Ability to work in teams of diverse background
•Laboratory and hands-on experience in at least one of the Center’s research focus areas
•Industry experience is preferred

•Knowledge of and ability to pay strict attention to research protocol
•Ability to organize and work on multiple complex tasks
•Computer literacy, including ability to use a variety of software packages to analyze data
•Ability to collect, record, analyze and interpret data using appropriate field specific systems, equipment and techniques
•Ability to set up and conduct sound experimental procedures
•Analytical, reasoning and problem solving skills
•Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records
•Excellent interpersonal skills

The Center for Future Energy System (CFES) is funded by the New York State Office of Science, Technology, and Innovation (NYSTAR) as a Center for Advanced Technology (CAT). The Center’s mission is to work with New York State industry in the energy sector to develop and apply advanced energy technologies in renewable energy, energy conversion, storage and distribution, as well as efficient energy utilization. Current research areas of CFES include distributed energy resources such as wind and solar as well as energy storage and microgrids; energy efficiency technologies; as well as measurement, modeling, simulation and control of power systems. CFES is recently re-designated by NYSTAR as a CAT for the next 10 years (2015-2025).

CFES research staff are an integral part of the Center’s research team that also includes faculty and graduate research associates across all schools at RPI. The primary responsibility of research staff is to conduct applied research in collaboration with CFES industry partners. The research staff also support core laboratories and facilities of the Center, including the Energy Materials and Devices Lab (EMDL) and the Distributed Energy Resources System Integration Lab (DERSIL).

CFES has multiple opportunities for researchers and technical staff at different levels. Hiring will depend on candidate qualifications and experiences as well as current needs of the Center.
