Position: Electronic Resources Librarian – Andersen Library, Academic Staff, Annual, Full-time Appointment

 

This position supports the teaching and learning objectives of the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater through the life cycle management of electronic resources, including purchasing, licensing, discovery, access, maintenance, and evaluation. Duties include processing new orders for electronic resources, assisting with licensing, aiding in the management of electronic content, activating online access for electronic resources, trouble-shooting technical and subscription-related access problems, and collaborating on institutional digital content.

 

This position reports to the Collection Manager and provides service desk staffing for the Andersen and Lenox Libraries. The position will work cooperatively throughout Library departments, the University, and the University of Wisconsin system to ensure access and discoverability of electronic resources.

 

Departmental Responsibilities:

Plan, coordinate, and manage the overall life cycle of electronic resources provided by the library for the support of teaching, learning, and research.

a. Coordinate with the Collection Manager to order, activate, customize, renew/ cancel, and troubleshoot the library’s databases, e-books, e-journals, streaming media, other web-based content

b. Participate in the vendor and license management of electronic resources

c. Work with Systems and Technical Services staff to ensure the quality of metadata representing electronic collections and portfolios

d. Investigate and troubleshoot access issues involving electronic resources and link resolving

e. Collaborate to resolve electronic resource access problems with appropriate parties

f. Manage the day-to-day operations of electronic resources in relevant platforms

g. Develop and implement proactive processes and workflows related to electronic resources

h. Conduct usability and accessibility testing of electronic resources

i. Collect and analyze usage and budgetary statistics to support retention and renewal decisions; conduct collection analysis as needed to facilitate collection decisions

j. Manage access to institutional digital content, including repository systems

k. Provide information to library staff and patrons about new resources, changes to existing resources, and resource outages

l. Collaborate with Reference Librarians on support documentation and resource guides

m. Assist with Collection Management and Acquisitions projects and priorities

 

Organizational Responsibilities:

Plan and participate in initiatives for the success of the UW – Whitewater, and UW System Libraries

a. Collaborate on departmental and library projects and objectives for the Andersen and Lenox Libraries

b. Participate in local, state, and national professional organizations as appropriate

c. Maintain awareness of current literature and practices

d. Provide user-centered assistance for students, faculty, staff, and community members

e. Provide public service and instructional support as needed

f. Participate in required campus training and emergency procedures

g. Other duties as assigned by the Library Director

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

• American Library Association-accredited Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science or equivalent

• 1-3 years library experience

• Knowledge of electronic resources management

• Experience completing independent projects

• Experience working collaboratively

• Experience in public service

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of integrated library systems as they relate to e-resources, acquisitions, and serials management

• Knowledge of trends and issues in academic libraries including emerging technologies related to electronic resources

• Knowledge of electronic resource licensing

• Demonstrated awareness of higher education specific technologies, including content management systems and institutional repositories

• Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data

• Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and software platforms

• Organizational and time management skills

: • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and skills • Demonstrated ability to successfully accomplish multiple projects, set priorities, communicate objectives, and create supporting documentation • Demonstrated ability to cooperate in a team environment and maintain effective and respectful working relationships • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
