The NC State College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) has achieved national recognition in research, teaching and clinical excellence, and the Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences plays critical roles in all of these areas. The Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences (https://cvm.ncsu.edu/research/departments/mbs) is one of three departments at the CVM and consists of faculty who have diverse research, clinical, and teaching interests.

The CVM is a dynamic community whose members are dedicated to preparing veterinarians and veterinary scientists while advancing animal and human health from the cellular level through entire ecosystems.

Essential Job Duties

The position of Lecturer of Veterinary Anatomy will be dedicated 95% to instructional activities of the anatomy courses and 5% to department and college service activities. Veterinary anatomy is taught as two courses (one in the fall and one in the spring semester) in the first year DVM program. The successful candidate will be required to participate in the instruction of fall and spring anatomy courses and assume responsibilities of distributed lecture load and laboratory instruction. In addition, this position may assume the responsibility of Course Coordinator for one of the courses. Contributing to current and future development of innovative teaching methods and resources for anatomy instruction (for example, course design projects, prosections, dry and plastinated models, and digital media resources) will be expected of this position. Finally, contribution to and/or development of applied anatomy-focused selectives (1-2 week short courses offered in the veterinary curriculum fall and spring) will be encouraged and there will be opportunity as time permits to participate in small group learning courses outside of the anatomy courses.

The successful candidate will have a DVM (or equivalent degree, e.g. BVSc, BVMS) and/or a PhD in an applied field of anatomy, with instructional experience. Applicants with a strong veterinary clinical practice background in disciplines that utilize clinically applied anatomy on a routine basis (for example, surgery, radiology, and sports medicine) and/or teaching experience in veterinary gross anatomy or a closely related applied discipline (for example, surgery or radiology) are encouraged to apply. Applicants with experience teaching microanatomy (histology), in addition to gross anatomy, will be highly preferred.

The incumbent must possess excellent interpersonal skills as well as oral and written communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.

Other Work/Responsibilities Minimum Education/Experience

DVM (or equivalent degree, e.g. BVSc, BVMS) and/or PhD, and experience in teaching gross anatomy.

Departmental Required Skills

Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.

Experience teaching gross anatomy with teaching experience in veterinary anatomy highly preferred.

Strong commitment to excellence in teaching is expected.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Additional experience teaching veterinary microanatomy (histology) preferred.
