Essential Job Duties:

Made to order and small batch cooking in a high volume food service environment while maintaining high-quality standards.

Follow standardized recipes to ensure food quality, appearance and taste.

Perform specialty tasks such as display station set up and service, enhanced garnishing, recipe development, and event meal assistance.

Transport cooked foods to hotboxes and may also help set up serving line.

Supplies/supports front of the house operations with backup food to ensure no lag time between changing out food items.

May work as prep-cook and will follow lead cook directions. Includes preparation work of ingredients for recipes and production of food items according to the recipe.

This is an hourly position with a 10-11 month assignment. Excellent performance during this time may provide an opportunity to renew employment and/or advance. Enjoy a two-week break in late December – early January due to semester break.

Other Work/Responsibilities Minimum Experience/Education

High School Diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Advanced display cooking skills required.

Experience in a cook or prep cook position or culinary education required.

Strong customer service skills required.

Equipment knowledge, knife skill, measurements and knowledge of cooking methods and food safety required.

Departmental Required Skills

Ability to communicate effectively with customers, supervisors, and peers.

Maintain Grade A sanitation rating of 95% or better.

Provide exemplary customer service to every guest.

Must be able to work rotating shifts, including evenings and weekends.

Ability to remain calm under pressure when dealing with difficult issues.

Will routinely handle sharp items such as knives and slicer blades as well as be around hot food items, food pans, ovens, fryers, steam tables, grills.

Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and push speed carts.

Maintain Grade A sanitation rating of 95% or better.

Ability to read and follow written recipes and oral instructions.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Certificate of completion from a Culinary Education program or enrolled in such a program or has diverse culinary knowledge.

ServSafe certificate a plus.

At least 2 years cooking experience in fine dining and or white linen catering.

Recipe implementation, to include testing and development preferred.

Sanitation Inspections experience preferred.

Required License or Certification
