Basic Function

To provide support to enhance quality and effectiveness of laboratory activities for science labs including primarily chemistry, and physics, geology, and other labs as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Science Laboratory Technician is responsible for lab preparation/set-up and the operation and use of laboratory equipment and computers. This position assists with lab sessions alongside instructors; proctors student exams in emergencies; participates in developing new lab activities; repairs small lab equipment; troubleshoots experiments.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or related field or equivalent applicable experience and/or training. Experience working in a science lab.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or related field or equivalent applicable experience and/or training. Experience in equipment repair. Certification(s) from OSHA. Experience using MSDS. Experience with Chemical Hygiene Plans.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of purpose, operation, and maintenance of science laboratory equipment. Knowledge of chemical storage and solution making and disposal. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Computer literacy and familiarity with basic software programs. Ability to manage and use resources effectively. Knowledge of basic lab safety regulations. Excellent organizational skills.
