Job Description

Teach a variety of college-level lecture and activity courses within the Department of Kinesiology and related courses to a diverse student population. Intercollegiate athletics courses will not be included in this assignment.

Prepare course materials and use appropriate instructional methodologies, which may include but are not limited to delivering lectures, leading discussions, and conducting laboratory demonstrations.

Serve as either the curriculum representative and/or Academic Senator for the Kinesiology & Athletics division.

Contribute to the development and revision of course content and instructional materials, textbook/equipment selection, instructional equipment oversight and assessment strategies.

Participate in the development and implementation of articulation agreements and actively participate and contribute in the Guided Pathways, Dual Enrollment, and Career Technical Education framework at Cypress College to enhance student success.

Assist with the development of scholarly and professional activities that promote economic development and partnerships with the local professional community.

Work with students and employers in occupational settings, on-the-job training, practicums, internships, and similar work-related situations as needed.

Maintain professional skills and subject expertise through continual study and research in discipline and through involvement in professional organizations.

Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program; participate in appropriate professional development activities.

Participate in co-curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching in special programs designed to support student success.

Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment cycle.

Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings.

Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner.

Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with district, college and division policies in the performance of duties.

Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.

Develop culturally relevant course content, culturally responsive pedagogical techniques, and effective practices for engaging students who are diverse and/or are students who are historically underserved. The ideal candidate should have experience in this area with African American. Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders and other disproportionately impacted students.

Work cooperatively with staff and students.

Evening and/or Saturday assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education

OR

Bachelor’s in any of the above

AND

Master’s in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy

OR the equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

Commitment to diversity. Desirable Qualifications

NSCA (National Strength & Conditioning Association) CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) Certification and experience implementing a strength and conditioning program.

Experience in grant writing and grant management

Experience with adaptive physical education methodologies and practices.

Demonstrated knowledge and interest in working with students who are underrepresented in higher academia, with the goal of reducing equity gaps.

Certification or membership from any of the following nationally recognized organizations including but not limited to:

•American Dietetic Association

•American Public Health Association: CHES (Certified Health Education Specialist)

•American Red Cross: Current CPR/AED Instructor card

•American Red Cross: Current Standard First Aid Instructor certification

•American Red Cross: Current Safety Training for Swim Coach or Basic Water Rescue certification

•American Heart Association: Basic Life Support certification

•ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine)

•AFAA (Aerobics & Fitness Assoc. of America)

•ACE (American Council on Exercise)

•NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine)

•NATA (National Athletic Training Assoc.)

•National Recreation Association

•Specialty certifications in martial arts/combatives or the equivalent.

•Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT)

Initial salary placement will be determined by the Office of Human Resources in accordance with the faculty collective bargaining agreement and is not negotiable. The candidate selected for employment will be required to provide the following: official transcripts and verification of experience prior to the first duty day, identification and employment eligibility as outlined in the Immigration Reform and Control Act, fingerprints and required medical certification pursuant to statue. NOCCCD will not sponsor any visa applications.
