Under the supervision of the Audio Visual and Information Technology Manager, and as part of the AV/IT Team, the Systems Administrator's general responsibilities will include working closely with the CNSI Technology Centers to develop an in-depth knowledge of their processes and computing environment. This will be used to evaluate, implement and maintain new computing systems and a Lab Management software platform that will enhance the customer service levels and operational efficiencies of the Technology Centers. The Systems Administrator will administer, configure, install and maintain hardware and software, and troubleshoot network-related issues for a broad variety of computing platforms which include but not limited to Windows 2000 and newer, Windows Server 2008 and newer, ESXi, Linux, and MacOS. This position will be expected to provide high level security consultation through the assessment of network security levels and compliance, development and implementation of IT security best practices, and mitigation of security issues in a heterogeneous computing environment. This position will collaborate with campus partners to evaluate security issues and develop and implement action-plans to improve systems and network security. The Systems Administrator will work with the AV/IT Team and campus service providers to monitor the health and overall performance of the department's network hardware, physical and virtual servers, UPSes, storage solutions, databases, and web services. Other tasks include the evaluation, implementation and support of new hardware and software technologies, documentation of systems and processes, and the training of staff, researchers and CNSI building residents regarding network access procedures, software applications, security best practices and policies, and hardware usage. 20 Records Qualifications Required/Preferred Minimum of 5 years desktop support experience and 3 years of server administration experience. Required Working knowledge of Linux OS (CentOS/RedHat, and Ubuntu). Preferred Demonstrated systems administration experience including the design, configuration, installation and support of Microsoft Windows Server OSes (2008R2/2012R2/2016). Required Detailed knowledge of desktop and mobile operating systems: Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/7/8/10, MacOS, Linux, Android and iOS. Required Knowledge of network hardware, network topology, network and routing protocols, subnetting and addressing, and network security. Required Demonstrated skill in developing and implementing methods and procedures to ensure information security and data integrity. Required Demonstrated experience with hard drive cloning, enterprise backup, and disaster recovery. Required Expert-level knowledge of common applications (Antivirus, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, web browsers, file managers and Cloud storage) Required In-depth knowledge of RAID, server replication, virtual servers, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, VPN, wireless protocols, and security certificates. Required Working knowledge of VMWare ESX/i, Microsoft Hyper-V, RedHat KVM, or Citrix XenServer. Required Experience in writing system requirements. Preferred Skilled in communicating effectively both orally and in writing; develop and deliver presentations on technical topics to audiences of varying knowledge and level. Required Ability to build and maintain positive, constructive and cooperative working relationships. Required Demonstrated skill in analyzing complex or ambiguous technical information, problems, or situations. Required Ability to work efficiently and effectively in the midst of diversified responsibilities, changing priorities and frequent interruptions.
