The incumbent conducts thorough and detailed systems technical analysis, participates in application architecture, design and development, database design and modeling for highly complex distributed applications. The incumbent is highly experienced with Microsoft's suite of development products (.Net programming tools, SQL Server etc.), is familiar with all phases of the SDLC and keeps abreast with emerging technologies. The incumbent plans and coordinates full system and user acceptance testing for highly complex mainframe and distributed systems. The incumbent researches for use of new or mature technologies to solve problems. The incumbent acts as a primary liaison with business offices, as needed. The incumbent works with students, end-users, management, technical staff, vendors, and representatives from state and federal agencies to develop, implement, and maintain mainframe and distributed applications. The incumbent develops and runs reports, queries, stored procedures, views SSIS jobs and other SQL Server database objects as needed on the student records database. The incumbent evaluates requests for programs, reports, and database modifications or enhancements. The incumbent analyzes and resolves complex production system problems, monitors production systems to ensure correct and efficient operation and manages production environment for various applications. The incumbent has excellent problem solving, organizational and communication skills. Percentage of Time: 100 Shift Start: 8:00 am Shift End: 5:00 pm function checkForSelectedStatus(){ return true;} Qualifications for Position 25 Records Qualifications Required/Preferred Outstanding skills in systems analysis and design and architecture for distributed systems including completing feasibility studies of proposed projects, analyzing complex functional processes, developing overall system requirements, designing detailed inputs and outputs, designing GUI and web interfaces, and producing detailed system and programming specifications. Required Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills, ability to analyze operational and organizational systems: define the problem or objective; identify relevant concerns or factors; identify problems, tendencies and relationships; formulate logical and objective conclusions; recognize alternatives and their implications; propose alternatives and discuss orally or in writing; and implement procedural changes to affect the desired result. Required Ability to define testing procedures and to rigorously carry out such procedures. Required Excellent skills in implementing new systems, projecting the resulting workflow changes, and integrating new systems into operational procedures. Required Expertise in Microsoft .NET, Visual Basic, C#, SQL, XML, XSL, SOAP, AJAX, JQuery, CSS and JavaScript. Demonstrated ability to write easily maintainable, durable, scalable, structured, object oriented code following proper coding and documentation standards. Required Expertise in developing and consuming SOAP and REST Web Services. Required Knowledge of JavaScript Frameworks. Preferred Detailed knowledge of relational database theory and systems and MS SQL Server. Required Demonstrated ability to recognize and resolve commercial systems and application software bugs. Required Working knowledge of n-tier applications. Required Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, books, and periodicals. Required Working knowledge of Student Affairs approach to service and problem solving in a collegiate environment. Required Excellent Oral communication skills sufficient to represent the unit on task forces and committees, to effectively participate in meetings and conferences, and to interact with management, technical, and end-user staff on a one-to-one basis and in group presentations. Required Excellent Interpersonal skills to work effectively and diplomatically with diverse groups of administrators, colleagues, managers, technical staff, faculty, students, staff, vendors, representatives of governmental agencies and the public. Required Ability to write comprehensive, well organized, grammatically correct, and lucid reports, proposals, instructional/technical documentation, and technical reports concerning feasibility studies, systems requirements and design, detailed processing requirements, and programming specifications. Required Skill in setting priorities, meeting competing deadlines, and handling varying requirements and job complexities. Required Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and to interact effectively with technical, management, and end-user staff and vendor representatives. Required Ability to complete a heavy workload in a timely manner when there are competing and diverse requirements and under pressure of deadlines. Required Ability to work independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction and also working as part of a team. Required Ability to perform with constant interruptions and distractions. Required Working knowledge of Federal and State laws and University of California policies regarding privacy and public information; working knowledge of student record policies and procedures. Preferred Knowledge of UCLA Authentication and Authorization systems, applications, procedures and policies. Preferred Detailed knowledge of UCLA Student Information Systems Preferred Working knowledge of PC software including MS Office, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, and MS Windows.
