Job Summary Requisition Number: 29308 Job Title: STUDENT AFFAIRS OFFICER II Working Title: Student Affairs Officer II Salary: $23.04 - $45.54 hourly Job Type: Career Department Name: 1010-MATHEMATICS Department Website URL: Job Summary Statement: As a member of the Student Services team and reporting to the Undergraduate Advisor (SAOIII), support undergraduate program in the Department of Mathematics and the Program in Computing. Advise undergraduate students on policies, procedures, and degree requirements for department majors, minors, and specializations. Monitor academic progress and counsel students with academic difficulties, make decisions/recommendations on student petitions, and advise on major/career objectives. Coordinate and supervise Math Diagnostic Testing for entering and transfer students, including processing scores and submitting data to appropriate entities (MDTP and math department).

Compile pertinent data to make recommendations to Undergraduate Vice Chair regarding student enrollment and progress. Coordinate the application process for our Summer Research Experience (REU) program for Undergraduate students. Provide support and guidance to our student clubs (Bruin Actuarial Society and Student Math Association) including attending meetings and events. Organize and present department orientations and participate in College information sessions and orientation programs for transfer students.

Process quarterly textbook orders using online textbook requisition system and maintain textbook database. Type course syllabi, course evaluations and comments, correspondence and memoranda. Manage faculty and TA evaluation process. Create departmental reports utilizing Access and Excel and data available from University systems, departmental databases, and spreadsheets. Update undergraduate program website on department server and course information on CIMS. Generate reader time sheets. Organize department commencement, open houses, career days, undergraduate recruitment and alumni events. Serve as backup for Graduate Assistant (SAOI) and assist Student Services Manager (SAOIV). Preferred Working knowledge of student/academic affairs in a college/university setting. Preferred Demonstrated ability to accurately communicate and provide advice in person, by phone and in writing regarding complex and changing academic regulations, policies and procedures. Required Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills to interact effectively with faculty, staff, students and parents as well as to establish reciprocal and productive working relationships at the University, Division and Department levels. Required Ability to handle confidential information sensitively and appropriately. Required Demonstrated organizational, prioritization and multi-tasking skills to work efficiently and effectively in an open-space office with setting with frequent interruptions. Required Demonstrated skill in utilizing computer hardware (including PCs, digital camera, scanner, printers) and software (including Word, Excel, Access, web interface, PowerPoint, and Publisher). Required Ability to effectively utilize web based applications including email, events online, commencement administrator, counselor desktop, SR Web and textbook requisition system. Required Ability to effectively utilize mainframe applications including SIS, SRS, UIDS and CIMS. Preferred Ability to use database software for cataloging textbooks. Required Skill in organizing and maintaining accurate information in files. Required Working hours include commencement weekend.
