The University of California, Irvine, Department of Family Medicine is recruiting a full-time faculty member to lead research that promotes health equity, community engagement and population health. This position will be 50% in the tenure-track Professorial Series and 50% in the Professor-In-Residence Series, at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The position carries salary and a start-up package. Salary will be commensurate with training and experience.

The successful candidate will have significant experience in community-based research design, measurement, statistical analysis, project development and scientific writing with a successful track record in grant applications and publications. He/she will have significant experience in community engagement, and the design and evaluation of programs to promote health equity for disadvantaged populations, particularly in the context of the delivery of health care in under-resourced communities. The candidate will be expected to partner with faculty within and outside of the Department, and to spearhead multi-disciplinary collaborations.

This position will work closely with the UCI School of Medicine PRIME-LC, which trains medical students to become outstanding clinicians and leaders for poor and disadvantaged Latino communities. Candidates should have an interest or background in caring for Latino patients and an interest in health disparities. The successful candidate will assist in the admissions and training of PRIME-LC students and residents.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an extramural funded research program at a high level of accomplishment, leading to significant programmatic developments, partnerships, national and international recognition.

UC Irvine, located in Orange County, with a population of more than three million, has a long and distinguished tradition of training family physicians with a focus on service to medically underserved populations. Established in 1968, the UCI Department of Family Medicine was one of the few original family medicine training programs in the US. Our post-graduate residency is based in a federally-qualified community health center where it has trained hundreds of family physicians to serve communities near and far. UCI Family Medicine faculty lead innovative programs addressing the breadth of family practice including the Program in Medical Education for the Latino Community (PRIME-LC), the Division of Geriatrics, Integrative Health, outreach to local schools, and partnerships with community-based organizations.

Requirements: We invite applicants with a record of significant research experience, including high-quality publications. Successful applicants should have demonstrated experience in effective and innovative training and mentorship of junior faculty, medical students, graduate students and undergraduates in research methods and in the conduct of health disparities research studies in health care settings.

Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in a health-related degree. Experience with Latino communities and Spanish language skills are preferred. Candidates who demonstrate the ability to be competitive for extramural funding (e.g., current funding or submitted applications for mentored or independent awards, particularly from the NIH) are desired.
