The Design Program within the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design at The George Washington University invites applications for a full-time, renewable contract (3-year appointment), Assistant Professor of Graphic Design. The appointment begins as early as fall, 2019.

The Assistant Professor of Graphic Design is a ranked non-tenure nine-month position with a three-year commitment that commences as early as fall 2019.

The faculty member must demonstrate knowledge of current and emerging trends in graphic design education and contemporary practice, as well as knowledge of established and experimental approaches. The faculty member will teach, advise, and mentor students; evaluate student performance; maintain departmental and student records while playing a leading role in developing and implementing curriculum. Responsibilities include participation in university meetings as they relate to faculty and departmental and college committee service. Faculty are expected to be actively involved in the graphic design discipline and to produce independent creative research and work.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach classes focused within the Graphic Design BFA, with the possibility of teaching in the Interaction Design BFA/MA and the Exhibition Design MA.
Lead curriculum development and innovation.
Actively recruit new students to the program.
Coordinate program identity and retention activities.
Advise and mentor students on classes and internships and prepare them for professional positions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have at time of application: Terminal degree in graphic design or related field or minimum of five years equivalent professional experience; At least two years of successful university-level teaching experience (or equivalent) beyond the assistantship level; Nationally established and active professional design career evidenced by creative production and/ or scholarship; Proficiency with tools and technologies of contemporary design production and instruction; Broad based expertise in contemporary issues and practices in graphic design, with an additional area of focus, such as data visualization, information architecture, UI/UX, or other related design practice
