This recruitment will be used to establish a pool of candidates for current and future full-time, temporary appointments. Appointments to "head coach" positions, such as Head Football Coach, Defensive Coordinator and Offensive Coordinator are in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP). Assistant Coaches may be in the MPP or in Bargaining Unit 3, which is governed by the collective bargaining agreement between the California Faculty Association and the California State University system. Work schedule to be arranged.

Coaches perform a variety of coaching functions related to the sport of football in the Athletic Program at San Diego State University. These functions include but are not limited to: administration, recruiting, coaching, student advising, game management, fund raising, public relations, and teaching. Assist in organizing and administering appropriate pre-season, season, and post-season programs necessary for a quality football program. Assess talent of prospective student-athletes. Initiate and maintain communications with prospective student-athletes. Work with Academic Support Services regarding eligibility and academic progress of team members.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Successful recruiting and coaching experience.

Comprehensive knowledge of all coach responsibilities and NCAA rules and regulations. Ability to successfully teach football skills and fundamentals. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships on campus and in the community and ability to organize/motivate student-athletes to maximum performance level in sports and academic achievement.

Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills

Master's degree. Division I coaching experience.

Valid California driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire. Compliance with all NCAA, conference, and San Diego State University rules, policies and procedures is of paramount importance to the university. All position responsibilities should be carried out in full compliance with all such rules and regulations.
