Overview
The mission of the Office for Transition, Inclusion and Diversity at Fort Hays State University is to engage, support, and advance a living, learning, and working environment that fosters respect, diversity, equity, inclusivity, student success, and academic excellence for students in our increasingly global community.

Position Summary
The Assistant Director will be responsible for providing expertise on matters of transition, inclusion, and diversity initiatives for the University. Duties include actively engaging in implementing transition and inclusion initiatives promoting conditions that positively impact student success through the learning environment. Will assist in the establishing and engaging in both long-term and short-term solutions for advancing programs, events, and services to support orientation and transition of students, especially diverse student populations. Will support the director in providing expertise on student success and campus climate through innovative research and assessment, action plans, and professional development for all of our students of campus community.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the coordination and delivery of programs which support the needs of students of various race, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, socio-economic classes, religious and spiritual traditions, ages and abilities.
  • Assist with diversity training workshops, outreach, and support programs.
  • Support on-campus diversity student organizations; Black Student Union, Hispanic American Leadership Organization, Gay-Straight Alliance, etc.
  • Assist with the creation and coordination of college preparations programs for underrepresented student populations; Hispanic College Institute, Golden Beginnings, etc.
  • Enhance experiences and develop opportunities unique to diverse student experiences. 
  • Assist in the coordination and delivery of all student transition and orientation experiences which leads to the success of the students; Tiger Pre-Enrollment Days, Transfer Pre-Enrollment Days, Tiger Impact Orientation, Transfer Orientation, and Diverse Student Orientation.
  • Coordinate peer-support programs (e.g., peer mentors, peer advisors/counselors) through collaboration with the Center for Student Involvement. 
  • Assist with the coordination of parent and family programs to ensure that the families of Fort Hays State University students are aware of the engaging and success-promoting opportunities available to students at times throughout their collegiate experience.
  • Direct supervision of student and graduate assistant student staff.

Qualifications
Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education or in a related field plus 2 or more years of related professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • More than 3 years professional experience in student affairs.
  • Experience in inclusion and diversity programming and services.
  • Experience in new student orientation and transition programming and services.
  • Demonstrated ability in effective presentation, facilitation, and communication (oral presentation).
  • Demonstrated ability in effective communication, ability to interact comfortably with students, families, faculty, and staff.
  • Experience in working with and leading undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly and concisely.
  • Experience in using student development theory, multi-culturalism, and identity development theory to inform practice.

This is a 12-month position responsible for the decision and delivery of a comprehensive programs for student success, transition, inclusion, and diversity at Fort Hays State University. Versatility and collaboration are the keys to this position.
