This is an administrative, full-time faculty position to direct the College's clinical medical education program in Orlando and surrounding counties. The position offers the opportunity to assist in preparing physicians and physician assistants for practice in the 21st century. FSUCOM uses a distributed model of medical education with the medical students receiving the first two years of medical education at the main FSU campus in Tallahassee and the third and fourth year clinical experiences at clinical sites around the state. Physician Assistant students receive the first 15 months of education at the main FSU campus in Tallahassee and the final year clinical experiences at clinical sites around the state.Responsibilities Florida State University College of Medicine (FSUCOM) invites applications for the position of Assistant Dean of the Orlando Regional Campus.
The Regional Campus Assistant Dean has the responsibility to identify, train and supervise Clerkship Directors and faculty who are responsible for the education of third and fourth year medical students and second year Physician Assistant students. They will work collaboratively with Education Directors and Clerkship Directors to assure that students meet all educational requirements. They will provide elective grades, as well as the clinical summary for the MSPE as students apply for residency. Additionally, all Regional Campus Assistant Deans oversee, coordinate, teach and grade the weekly Doctoring 3 course--a didactic lecture series. Regional Campus Assistant Deans counsel, mentor, and advise medical students and physician assistant students.
Duties will include administering the offices of the College of Medicine community campus and directing and coordinating all personnel, facilities, and instructional programs of the College of Medicine located at that site. Administrative duties such as budget management, fundraising, committee assignments as well as serving as the official representative of the College of Medicine (COM) within the local community are expected. Developing and maintaining effective community collaboration to optimize the medical education program will be an essential responsibility. The Assistant Dean oversees the activities of the office staff, and serves as the chair of the regional campus community advisory board. The Regional Campus Dean will serve at the pleasure of the Dean of the Florida State University College of Medicine. The Regional Campus Dean will serve under the supervision of the Senior Associate Dean for Regional Campuses.Qualifications M.D. or equivalent degree and be board certified in a medical specialty. A minimum of five years of clinical practice and administrative experience is required.
Demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.Preferred Prior experience in medical education is highly preferred.
Excellent knowledge of the Orlando medical community.
