Department The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Florida A&M University-Florida State University College of Engineering is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of experimental structures and materials, in the city of Tallahassee, Florida.

The Department is a vibrant and dynamic professional community consisting of 18 full-time faculty members, active in research across various areas of civil and environmental engineering, as well as research scientists and support staff. Moreover, the successful candidate will have many opportunities to interact and collaborate with world-class centers at both universities, including the High-Performance Materials Institute; the Energy and Sustainability Center; the Aero-propulsion, Mechatronics and Energy Center, the Institute for Building Sciences, the Center for Advanced Power Systems; the Center for Intelligent Systems, Control, and Robotics; and many more. The Department currently offers programs leading to the B.S., M.Eng, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering. The undergraduate program is ABET accredited. The Department has approximately 350 undergraduate students and 60 graduate students. More information is available on our departmental website: (http://www.eng.famu.fsu.edu/cee/)Responsibilities The successful candidate is expected to create a research program that is internationally recognized and well-funded, collaborate with interdisciplinary researchers across campus, and demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in education through teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and the supervision of undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral researchers.Qualifications Candidates must possess a Ph.D. degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline. We seek an outstanding scholar who demonstrates strong commitment to quality teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, along with an exemplary record of scholarly activities commensurate with the anticipated rank.

Successful candidates will have strong inter-disciplinary research backgrounds, with demonstrated interest and expertise in experimental research that addresses existing and future needs for sustainable and resilient infrastructure. Although exceptional candidates in other areas may be considered, the department is mainly interested in experimental research in structures and mechanics of materials. Specific research areas include but are not limited to: experimental testing of structures against hazards, innovative structural systems, high-performance materials, material degradation and damage science, novel bridge design and construction techniques, and/or energy-efficient building structures.Preferred Possession of a Professional Engineering (PE) License or the ability to obtain a Florida PE license within one year of employment is highly desirable.Other Information We expect to hire at the Assistant Professor rank, but exceptional candidates for the Associate Professor rank will be considered.Contact Info Dr. Lisa Spainhour
