Department The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) at the Florida A&M University-Florida State University College of Engineering is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the field of robotics, in the city of Tallahassee, Florida.
The ME Department currently has approximately 28 faculty, 85 graduate students, 361 undergraduate students and annual expenditures in excess of $6.5 million. https://www.eng.famu.fsu.edu/meResponsibilities The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong externally-funded research program, collaborate with interdisciplinary researchers across campus, and demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in education. The faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, supervise undergraduate and graduate students, and participate in service activities within the department, the university and the profession.Qualifications Candidates must possess an earned Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline. We seek an outstanding scholar who demonstrates, or has potential for: leadership in engineering research; success in educating postgraduate and undergraduate students; ability to secure sustained research funding; and aptitude in working collaboratively across disciplinary boundaries.Other Information We expect to hire at the assistant professor level, although applicants with outstanding qualifications and experience will be considered for appointment at a higher rank.
We expect that the candidate would join our existing Center for Intelligent Systems, Control, and Robotics (CISCOR,http://www.ciscor.org/), but outstanding opportunities exist for collaboration with a number of additional centers of excellence including: the High Performance Materials Institute (HPMI, http://hpmi.research.fsu.edu/), the Florida Center for Advanced Aero-Propulsion (FCAAP, http://www.fcaap.com/), and the Aerospace, Mechatronics and Energy Center (AME, http://ame.fsu.edu/).
