Internal Medicine is a department within the Division of Heath Sciences and Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. The Department of Internal Medicine is comprised of ten divisions with over 85 full time faculty and 150 support staff members. Each of the divisions has its own specialty clinic.

Internal Medicine is home to seven fellowships and two residency programs. In recent years collaboration and funding have come from many national recognized organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, Health Resources and Service Administration, American Heart Association, NC Department of Human Health and Human Service. More locally, we have partnered with Vidant Medical Center Foundation, Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, North Carolina Biotechnology Center, and the Pitt County Health Department. Additionally, Internal Medicine participates in many pharmaceutical sponsored clinical trials.

We collaborate with Department of Pediatrics, the Department of Surgery, and the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences within the Brody School of Medicine. The Department of Internal Medicine has a close affiliation with Vidant Medical Center and serves a diverse population in eastern North Carolina. Vidant Medical Center, a 974-bed tertiary care teaching facility, serves as the primary teaching and clinical care venue for an integrated nine hospital hub and spoke system.

Job Duties

The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, seeks an Endocrinologist to join our team at East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine, at the rank/title of Assistant, Associate, or Professor, with tenure track or fixed term appointment.

Duties include clinical care in areas of general endocrinology, diabetes, and lipid disorders in inpatient and outpatient settings; participating in an active clinical trials program; and teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows. This position will also be expected to contribute to the Endocrinology Division’s scholarly research efforts.

Will work 4 days/week in Wilson and 1 day/week in Greenville.

The division offers a one-year Diabetes Fellowship Program for Primary Care Physicians, and a fully accredited two-year Endocrine Fellowship Program, with two fellows per year.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine affiliates with Vidant Medical Center (VMC). VMC is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. VMC is the tertiary referral center for Vidant Health Group, a regional health center network serving 29 counties.

Minimum Education/Experience

Must have a MD or DO from an appropriately accredited institution. Must have completed at least a three-year Internal Medicine Residency, and completed at least a two-year Endocrinology Fellowship, and be Board Eligible/Certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology.

Strong clinical, teaching and interpersonal skills are required.
