East Carolina University is located in coastal plains region of North Carolina in the city of Greenville; it is 75 miles east of the Research Triangle region and 50 miles west of the beaches of North Carolina. Greenville has a broad range of cultural, social, and community activities. East Carolina University is the fastest growing and third largest university among the 17 campuses in the University of North Carolina (UNC) system with over 29,000 students. The College of Engineering and Technology is comprised of four departments: Computer Science, Construction Management, Engineering, and Technology Systems, as well as The Center for Sustainability, an Advising Center, and 35,000 sq. ft. of lab space. The College serves over 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

Job Duties

The Department of Construction Management at East Carolina University invites applications for one tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor for a fall hire beginning August 2019. Candidates with established, externally funded, independent research programs and a proven track record of success in teaching, research, and service may be considered for appointment at the Associate Professor level.
Candidates with significant scholarly background may be eligible for supplemental funding through the Gregory Poole Endowed Professorship.

Duties include teach undergraduate and graduate courses in construction management. Conduct research and seek external funding and provide service to the university, profession and department. Participate in program assessment and strategic planning, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience

PhD in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field. ABD candidates must provide documented evidence of dissertation defense and completion of study prior to hire. All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution. It is expected that ABD applicants will have the degree conferred by August 16, 2019. Candidates with Ph.D. or Ed.D. conferred at the time of initial appointment will hold the rank of Assistant Professor upon initial appointment. ABD candidates will also be initially appointed with the probationary term rank of Assistant Professor and must have the terminal degree conferred prior to your first reappointment. Qualifying degrees must be received and conferred from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Preference will be given to applicants with any of the below:
• three or more years of managerial experience in the United States construction industry
• evidence of successful teaching in construction management at the college/university level
• demonstrated ability to secure external funding, grants, and/or industry support
• a demonstrated potential to develop and sustain an active research agenda
• Professional certification
• able to teach courses in the following areas: Surveying, Soils and Foundations, Materials (construction and/or highway), Cost Control, and Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) Systems in face-to-face and distance learning environments.
