The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology is dedicated to the discovery, development, and promotion of biomedical knowledge involving cell biology and the anatomical sciences of Gross Anatomy, Developmental Anatomy, Histology, and Neuroanatomy. Through this mission, we aim to improve human health through innovative educational programs and excellence in research and scholarly activities in a dynamic and diverse learning community.

Job Duties

The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University (ECU) is seeking a full-time faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Tenure track or fixed term appointment available. The new faculty member recruited to this position will contribute to and enhance the departmental education mission in human gross anatomy, with teaching responsibilities to a variety of professional students. In addition, this new faculty member will contribute to the departmental research missions in cell biology with an expectation to compliment the strengths of ongoing research in the department and participate in training of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. We are especially interested in candidates from underrepresented groups as well as individuals who have experience working with diverse student populations.

The rank and distribution of activities in teaching, research and service will depend upon the qualifications and previous teaching and research experience of the individual recruited to the position. The faculty member will have the opportunity for participation in collaborative intradepartmental and interdepartmental research activities. Appropriate professional service (i.e. serving on department, school, or university committees and/or task forces) is expected.

Minimum Education/Experience

The applicant must have a Ph.D. or D.Sc. or D.Phil. degree from an appropriately accredited institution in Anatomy or Anatomy & Cell Biology or a Ph.D. or D.Sc. or D.Phil. in a closely related field with experience in Anatomy. Applicant should demonstrate the capacity for independent research, publication and extramural funding. Two years of postdoctoral experience required as well as a strong interest in graduate student education and medical education in the basic anatomical disciplines.
Experience, interest and enthusiasm toward teaching gross anatomy are required.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

The applicant must have a Ph.D. or D.Sc. or D.Phil. degree from an appropriately accredited institution in Anatomy or Anatomy & Cell Biology or a Ph.D. or D.Sc. or D.Phil. in a closely related field with experience in Anatomy

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated experience and a strong interest in medical education in human gross anatomy. Preference will be given to applicants having basic research experience with relevance to stem cell biology, inflammation, cancer biology, reproductive health, neurodegenerative diseases and osteoarthritis.
