The ECU Department of Physical Therapy has established collaborative relationships with ECU’s Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina Diabetes and Obesity Institute (http://www.ecu.edu/ecdoi/), the College of Health and Human Performance, and the School of Dental Medicine. Vidant Medical Center is a fully accredited, 1000+ bed hospital serving 29 counties with Level-1 Trauma Center and extensive inpatient and outpatient services including rehabilitation and pain management. Our Doctor of Physical Therapy program has strong administrative support and attracts top quality students for each 30 student cohort.

East Carolina University, the third largest university in the state (~29,000 students), is a constituent of the UNC system. ECU is located in Greenville, North Carolina (population ~91,000). Located approximately 1½ hours from the capital city of Raleigh, Greenville is the cultural, educational, medical, and economic center of eastern North Carolina and enjoys a temperate climate. Greenville is also within driving distance to the beautiful North Carolina beaches (2 hours) and mountains (4 hours).

Job Duties

The Department of Physical Therapy in the College of Allied Health Sciences at East Carolina University (ECU) invites applications for a tenure-track (12-month “hard line” salary) faculty member at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor rank for a well-established Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Faculty will be expected to establish a fundable research line here at ECU. Individuals with research/funding experience in pain physiology, exercise physiology, cardiovascular and/or pulmonary physiology/rehab, or condition/s seen by physical therapists are especially invited to apply. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in pathophysiology (a combined course with the Dept. of Physician Assistant Studies) with opportunities to teach in other areas of interest. All faculty have access to state-of-the-art instructional facilities. The department has a 1100 ft2 wet lab with a Leica DM 4000 B microscope and imaging system, BioTek plate reader, cell culture room with BSL cabinet and incubators, Accuri C6 flow cytometer, NanoDrop 2000, and basic laboratory equipment. Through the Brody School of Medicine and the School of Dental Medicine, faculty have access to high-end core facilities with state-of-the-art equipment such as the Core Imaging Center, the Phosphor-Imaging/Fluorescence Imaging (PhIFI) core facility, Metabolomics Core Facility, and Li-Cor Biosciences Odyssey® Imaging System (http://www.ecu.edu/cs-dhs/bsomresearchgradstudies/Copy-of-CoreFacilitiesList.cfm). In addition, as a constituent of the University of North Carolina system, faculty have access to the core facilities at UNC-Chapel Hill. The department also has two well-equipped motion analysis labs for motion capture of human movement and a faculty practice provides opportunities for clinical practice and research.

Minimum Education/Experience

Must have a PhD or equivalent with a research focus in physiology or related area.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Post-doctoral experience or other advanced research training/experience, grant application/funding experience, a strong publication record, experience teaching physiology especially in a clinical program, eligibility for PT licensure in NC.
