Missouri Baptist University is a Christ-centered university located in Saint Louis. POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the President of the University the Vice President for Student Development provides executive level leadership and vision in the administration of a comprehensive range of services, policies and procedures related to student development programming and planning. The position serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet. The Vice President for Student Development contributes to a wide array of institution wide planning in a manner consistent with the mission, core values and vision of the University.  He/she must have the ability to work collaboratively and creatively to meet the needs of a diverse student body and facilitate a learning environment where all students have the opportunity to succeed. The Vice President is responsible for the planning and direction of all Missouri Baptist University programs in the areas of health and wellness, counseling services, international student services, judicial affairs, faith and service, public safety, resident life, student activities, student government, intramural sports, and intercollegiate athletics.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY

Provide leadership and oversight of a comprehensive integrated and innovative student development program including policy implementation, human resource and fiscal resource management.

Work collaboratively with faculty and staff University wide to develop and communicate a student development model and plan consistent with the mission and institutional strategic plan.

Lead, manage and operate in a manner consistent with University’s distinctively Christian mission, core values and vision.

Promote positive student relations by maintaining effective lines of communication with student leaders and student organizations.

Work with the Provost to effectively integrate curricular and co-curricular initiatives.

Collaborate with other University departments to strengthen student retention and graduation rates. 

Promote residential living and campus life to attract and retain more students to reside on campus.

Support and promote the University’s strategic enrollment plan.

Ensure that all programs and services in the Office of Student Development comply with relevant state and federal laws including Title IX and the Clery Act, as well as University policies.

Regularly assess all student development departments and implement plans for greater effectiveness and improvement.

Hire and coordinate the employment of new Student Development professionals who are knowledgeable, experienced and passionate about working with students.

Provide annual performance reviews of department employees.

Supervise programs designed to enhance the spiritual life of the University community including chapel and support of faith and service initiatives.

Serve as liaison to the Student Development Committee of the Board of Trustees.

Counsel and advise students who are experiencing difficulties, oversee judicial affairs, and provide due process as appropriate.

Serve on the President’s Cabinet and Administrative Council as well as by appointment on University committees.

Perform other duties assigned by the President.

RELATIONSHIPS

The President-

The Vice President for Student Development is directly accountable to the President of the University for the interpretation and fulfillment of the specific and general responsibilities of the position.

Senior Vice President for Business Affairs-

The Vice President for Student Development will work collaboratively with the Senior Vice President for Business Affairs in connection with the supervision of the University’s food service and in matters related to the repair and upkeep of the residence halls.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT REQUIREMENTS

 

An annual performance review is to be conducted by the President.  This review will include an assessment of the degree to which annual objectives have been accomplished, an analysis of the Vice President for Student Development’s strengths and weaknesses based on review of the job description and recent performance, and his/her proposed personal and professional development.

REQUIREMENTS

Earned doctorate preferably in a student development or relevant field of higher education

Minimum of five years of leadership experience in higher education

Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative programs at a comprehensive university

Strong leadership, supervisory and organizational skills

Proven record of developing and mentoring employees as leaders

Project management skills with the ability to effectively balance many tasks simultaneously

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Commitment to Jesus Christ and active participant in the local church

COMPENSATION

Salary commensurate with experience
