Under the direct supervision of the Photography Department Chair and in close consultation with the Director of Graduate Studies and Photography Labs Manager, oversees and manages all Graduate photography production facilities and equipment as well as administrative duties associated with the MFA Program.

Working with Photography Administration, Technical Staff, and the Faculty Program Director:
  • Manage graduate production facilities including, but not limited to, maintaining, operating, troubleshooting, and repairing all equipment within the digital and analog production facilities.
  • Manage graduate photographic equipment supply including, but not limited to, maintaining equipment database, reserving and checking out equipment to students, repairing and replacing equipment as necessary, growing equipment pool to accommodate student and curricular needs.
  • Manage and maintain supply budgets for lab consumables (ink, chemistry, etc.) as well as new purchases.
  • Manage and maintain all software within digital production spaces.
  • Hire, train, and manage technical graduate assistants in order to maintain all production facilities.
  • Train faculty, staff, and students on proper use of digital and analog equipment, facilities, and software.
  • Assist undergraduate staff on operation and maintenance of shared graduate/undergraduate spaces including, but not limited to, the non-silver lab, lighting studio, group black and white darkroom, and photography gallery.
  • Assist the Photography Assistant to the Chair with administrative tasks (mailings, posters, correspondence, etc.) that involve the MFA program.
  • Assist the Photography Assistant Chair with summer student advisement.
  • Assist the Photography Director of Graduate Studies in planning and implementing graduate student orientation.
  • Coordinate with colleagues in Fine Art Department on administrative and facilities related tasks.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education: Bachelors degree in photography.

Experience: 3 years experience, preferably in a university lab setting within technical, administrative, and managerial rolls.

Skills: In depth knowledge of Apple computers, Adobe Creative Cloud software, digital and analog cameras and lenses, studio lighting equipment, digital printing and scanning, and black and white and non-silver darkroom materials and methods.

Other: Excellent managerial, organizational, problem solving, and communication skills, are essential as is a positive attitude and the ability to work well with others.

The Institute's 25-acre campus contains twenty-four buildings, including landmark Romanesque and Renaissance Revival-style structures, clustered around spacious lawns and tree-canopied plazas. Sixteen buildings contain extensive studio, shop and technical facilities needed to support work in all media-from the traditional to the experimental. Five buildings are student residences. All have computer networking capacities and are Internet accessible. Computer labs, established with the most current equipment and the latest software, are available for instructional purposes and individual project use. Gallery space is extensive and the work of students, alumni, staff and other well-known artists is shown throughout the academic year. Pratt's Library, an historical landmark built in 1896, was the first fully automated academic library in the New York City area. Its art and architecture collection is excellent and contains approximately 208,000 volumes, 500 periodical and newspaper subscriptions, 66,000 slides, 190,000 pictures, 50,000 microforms, and 45,000 governmental documents.
