To assist the instructor in demonstrations, direct students in competency practice, perform check offs of students’ competencies.

Terms of Employment:
• This is a part-time (<.50 FTE) Temporary Hourly/Non-Benefited position
• Requires flexible work schedule, which may include evenings and/or weekends as well as travel throughout the district when needed.
• Upon hire, must pass criminal and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered.

Essential Functions:

Laboratory Instruction –

•Set up for demonstrations and competencies prior to laboratory experiences
•Assist lab instructor during demonstrations or perform demonstrations
•Coordinate student mentoring with that of the Instructor during competency practice
•Grade Student Assignments and/or Competencies
•Manage the camera and computer operations during demonstration transmissions or direct others in their operations
•Provide support to instructor as needed, including lab, clinical, and others as requested.
•Direct students or perform tasks in operatory maintenance including; replacing chair traps weekly, disinfection of operatories, restocking, turning off master switches, and others as needed.
•Maintain or direct students in waterline asepsis including the use of chemicals, shock treatments, and drying the lines at the end of each week.

Lab Maintenance –

•Drain ultrasonic and disinfect it daily or direct students to do so
•Maintain sterilizers including water levels, cleaning, emptying of waste water bottles, and draining at the end of the academic year
•Maintain the water purifier – contact Silas Towns for filter replacement every 1.5 years
•Let the Lab Coordinator know if any supplies or materials are needed, and if any equipment needs repair
•Direct students in the refilling and chemical maintenance of water bottles
•Clean traps in operatories, and compressor trap weekly

Materials & Supplies –

•Keep all materials and supplies in the operatories stocked
•Add materials that have reached the re-order point to the order list
•Work with Lab Coordinator to keep lab clean and organized (supply storage area, wall shelves, tubs, counters, drawers, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1.Dental Assisting experience in general dentistry
2.Perform competency check offs in coordination with the Instructor
3.Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using the English language with or without the use of an interpreter.

Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:

Working hours are regular, per the established work schedule. Work is performed in an ordinary office, mostly sitting. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature with the ability to sit or stand at workstation for extended periods. The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech ability for ordinary telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting under ten pounds for 15 percent of the time. Computer screen is used more than 75 percent of the time. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications:

1.High School diploma or GED
2.Computer literacy: experience with email, Internet, word processing, and spreadsheets (preferably experience with MS Office Suite products).
3.Familiarity with the Internet and internal E-Mail system (prefer knowledge of Outlook).
4.Accurate arithmetic, grammar, spelling, editing and proofreading skills.
5.Knowledge of standard office equipment and phones.
6.Experience with equipment use and maintenance in a dental operatory and lab

    Central Oregon Community College, the oldest two-year college in Oregon, provides comprehensive college services to the residents of its 10,000-square-mile district.

    COCC offers two-year associate degrees, transfer/lower division programs, career and technical education degrees and certificates, developmental courses, continuing education and community learning classes, industry-specific training programs, and business management assistance.
