Job Purpose

The Assistant Provost will work with the Faculty Academic Center of Excellence FACE Advisory Board and oversee the design and implementation of a new, world-class faculty development center - designated as one of the top Presidential Priorities for the university. This center will become a centralized hub for the university’s faculty across all ranks and titles, whose programming and support for the faculty will encompass teaching, scholarship, community and quality of life. This new position requires a person of bold vision and passionate commitment, a strong communicator with a broad expertise in pedagogy and academic life, who will devote themselves to supporting faculty by promoting excellence and innovation in their academic careers. This position is a full-time, twelve-month staff position at the expected rank of Assistant Provost under Academic Affairs and reporting to the Vice Provost and the FACE Faculty Advisory Board.

Description

Advocate and ensure FACE becomes a centralized hub for the university’s faculty, across all ranks and titles. Develop synergy, build bridges between the different colleges, departments, and organizations within the university, and create a faculty center that will have broad appeal across the entire faculty community. Foster a culture of continual faculty development through faculty-led sharing of best practices and engaged learning in a community of faculty scholars. Develop, implement, and assess programming to support teaching and learning. Develop, implement, and assess programming to support faculty scholarly productivity. Develop, implement, and assess programming that allows faculty to progress towards career milestones and the development of academic leadership. Lead and manage unit staff, develop and manage faculty fellows, plan and manage budget, and generate reports. Plan for the physical layout of the FACE facility and design the overall structure guided by the recommendations of the Presidential Task Force and the Advisory Board.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Doctorate degree/terminal degree and five years of successful teaching at an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Achieved tenure at the rank of associate professor.
  • Demonstrated record of academic scholarship and/or creative work.
  • Demonstrated record of progressive leadership responsibilities in higher education with an emphasis on personnel supervision and management of complex budgets.
  • Ability to present a bold vision and strategies in line with institutional priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to show passion and commitment to achieving institutional and center's goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a strong communicator with a broad expertise in pedagogy and academic life, who will devote themselves to supporting faculty and promoting excellence and innovation throughout their academic careers.
  • Demonstrated success in working with internal and external partners.

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated ability in developing, implementing, and/or assessing faculty development programming in teaching, scholarship, and leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure external funding or philanthropic gifts, particularly for faculty development initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success in developing, implementing, and assessing a faculty program in teaching, scholarship, and leadership.
