The College of Education and P-16 Integration is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor in Counseling to begin in fall 2019. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. This transformative initiative provided the opportunity to expand educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley, including a new School of Medicine, and made it possible for residents of the region to benefit from the Permanent University Fund - a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and other institutions.
UTRGV has campuses and off-campus research and teaching sites throughout the Rio Grande Valley including in Boca Chica Beach, Brownsville (formerly The University of Texas at Brownsville campus), Edinburg (formerly The University of Texas-Pan American campus), Harlingen, McAllen, Port Isabel, Rio Grande City, and South Padre Island. UTRGV, a comprehensive academic institution, enrolled its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine welcomed its first class in the summer of 2016.

The College of Education and P-16 Integration offers master's programs in Bilingual Education, Reading and Literacy, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education, School Psychology, and Counseling. We also offer Ed.D.s in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Bilingual Education and in Educational Leadership. The College of Education and P-16 Integration is fully accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
The Department of Counseling is a dynamic and diverse faculty with a robust range of research and professional interests offering two entry-level program specializations: Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling. Our 60-hour programs prepare students for professional licensure and/or school counseling certification using national standards and assessments. Both degree specializations are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

•Earned doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision (CES) from an accredited institution. Applicants who have completed all requirements except the dissertation (ABD) will be considered.
Candidates who are ABD must have their doctoral degrees conferred by the time of hire.
• Evidence of the potential for scholarly research leading to publication in nationally refereed journals.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
• Licensure as an LPC in Texas, or eligible for licensure at the time of hire.
•Earned doctorate from a CACREP-accredited program;
•Employment as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year;
•Experience and dual licensure/certification as school and clinical mentor health counselor

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.
Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to
demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based
test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of
English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the
International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Incomplete applications
