Position Description

The Department of Sport Management is now accepting applications for a tenure-track position to assist in further developing a premier undergraduate Sport Management department at one of the nation’s most respected universities. The appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor and will begin on July 1, 2019. The primary focus of this faculty member will be the field of sport analytics – both the performance side and the business side.

Assistant professors are expected to teach undergraduate courses and perform research in their specialized area. Therefore, successful candidates will have a promising research agenda and strong analytical and empirical skills as well as aspire to the highest standards of scholarship, professional activity, and commitment to undergraduate education. Candidates must currently have a Ph.D. or complete the Ph.D. by July 1, 2019.

The search committee will begin reviewing applications on Feb. 15 and will continue until the position is filled.

Students who major in Sport Management at Rice University have the option of earning a concentration in Sport Analytics. Daryl Morey and Jeff Luhnow, the General Managers for the Houston Rockets and Houston Astros respectively, are both adjunct professors in the Department of Sport Management at Rice University.
