The Department of Health Policy & Community Health in the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health (JPHCOPH) invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Professor. This position is located on the Statesboro campus, but requires teaching on both the Statesboro and Armstrong campuses.

Within this setting, JPHCOPH offers the Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH), Master of Public Health (MPH), and Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degrees. The MPH program has six emphasis areas: Biostatistics, Community Health, Environmental Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Health Policy & Management, and Generalist. The Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree has emphases in Community Health Behavior and Education, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Public Health Leadership. The Department of Health Policy & Community Health offers the BSPH in Health Education and Promotion, MPH in Community Health, MPH Generalist, MPH in Health Policy Management, DrPH in Community Health Behavior and Education, and DrPH in Public Health Leadership.

Position Description. Reporting to the Department Chair, the successful candidate will teach courses to students in the Department and College; be actively involved in extramurally funded, multidisciplinary research; provide service/outreach to the public health community; mentor students; serve on college and university committees; and be actively involved in professional associations. The position requires experience in teaching, research, and a terminal degree. The position is a 9-month, tenure track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position requires teaching on both the Statesboro and Armstrong campuses.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned terminal degree in public health or closely related field, or JD, by August 1, 2019, with emphasis in any one or more domains: Health Policy, Social Determinants of Health, or Health Law.
  • Commitment to teaching, academic program development, research, and service that is consistent with the College's vision and mission.
  • Proven record of or demonstrated potential for securing extramural research funding.
  • Commitment to service within the University, the profession, and community.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive work environment in the College and University.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated commitment to research and service for elimination of health disparities, particularly with rural and underserved populations, and/or improvement of community health status and health services.
  • Demonstrated commitment and experience in teaching, research and service in health policy, health management, and health systems.
