Description

The Instructional Developer supports the Walker Center for Teachingand Learning functions including working in a variety of ways to improveteaching and learning.  The InstructionalDeveloper coordinates and delivers faculty training and consultation serviceson an ongoing basis.  The person in theposition will develop, manage, and assess Center initiatives for theimprovement of teaching and learning. Applicants must have a working knowledge of the best practices inteaching and learning strategies and course design for all modalities.  Excellent written and oral communicationskills, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and experience with alearning management system are required. The ability to work as a member of ateam in a collaborative environment is critical to the mission of the Center.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop,coordinate, and assess a variety of faculty development programs to improvefaculty teaching, student learning and engagement, and technologyintegration. 
  • Assist faculty with the design/redesignof courses and programs to promote student learning and engagement and tosupport institutional change initiatives.
  • Assist faculty in using the institution’slearning management system.
  • Conduct a variety of consultativeservices for faculty to support institutional change initiatives and to providepedagogical and technological innovation in the classroom.
  • Regularly participate in professionaldevelopment opportunities to maintain knowledge and skills in evidence-basedteaching and learning.
  • Participate on university committees.
  • Occasional weekend, evenings, andovernight travel are required.

The position is a 12-month, exempt position that reports to theExecutive Director of the Walker Center for Teaching & Learning andAssistant Provost of Teaching and Learning.



Qualifications

Education:  Master’s degree required; Doctoral degree preferred.

 

Experience: 

  • At leasttwo years of work experience as an instructor in higher education. Recentonline teaching experience is preferred.
  • Experience with a learning managementsystem. Canvas experience is preferred.
  • Experience in faculty developmentinvolving the design, development, delivery, and assessment of effectivepedagogy and instruction of all modalities.
  • Experience with Quality Matters ispreferred (training, course certification)
  • Experience with academic technology forclassroom and online instruction.

JobSkills: 

  • Strong written and oral communicationskills, project management skills, critical thinking skills and creativeproblem solving.
  • Working proficiencies with at least onelearning management system and a variety of software applications.
  • Ability to work successfully with allmembers of the academic community with a strong desire to serve facultyclients. 
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn newskills, remain flexible in role and responsibilities, ability to beself-directed and open to feedback from others
  • Ability to develop, administer, andassess the Center’s programs.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of theliterature and scholarship in teaching and learning, including current issuesin higher education.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, andorganizational skills
