Job Details
The Computer and Audio\Visual Technician provides professional installation and troubleshooting of audio and video equipment and control systems. This responsibility includes set up, installation, programing and maintaining all hardware and software for computers and A/V Equipment on\off campus. Responsible for setup, installation and termination of various types of signaling cable, configuration, operation and troubleshooting support of all A/V Equipment. Technician must be capable of successfully embracing the latest technologies and tools while maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of all IT processes and data.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesJob Duties Include:
Working Various Hours from semester to semester. The Computer and A/V Technician position will report to the IT Manager and the Lead A/V Technician. This position will be responsible for installation and termination of various types of signaling cable. Mounting displays, projectors, speakers and cameras. Mounting and cabling equipment in racks. Provides effective and responsive Audio Visual technical and classroom technology equipment support.
Providing backup support for the Lead and overseeing projects and working with contractors. Design, plan and test system integration on campus network. Load Configuration/GUI files for control systems & touch panels and repair all computer and A/V hardware and software. Working with the Lead A/V Tech and College IT staff for configuration of video conferencing equipment, control systems, and audio processors.
Conduct regular maintenance of hardware and software and instructional equipment such as computer carts, Smart Boards, LCD TV’s, Interactive TV’s, DVD devices, Sympodiums, Decoders, Amplifiers, Scalers, Extron/Crestron, NEC/Epson/Christie projectors, Video Conferencing Equipment such as Skype, WebEx and CISCO/Tandberg, etc. of the Woodbridge Campus Information Technology infrastructure as well as classrooms and offices at off campus locations such as; Quantico Marine Base and Ft. Belvoir.
Assisting in event setup for the campus and providing support as needed.
Maintain all A/V inventory for all campus buildings and off campus locations.
Troubleshoot campus iPads, iMacs and Windows computers as wells as various computing technologies like switches, routers, control panels and networks.
Extensive use of Microsoft products, email software, helpdesk software and various other IT software.
Experience working in a fast paced environment. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Experience in integration of A/V. Valid driver’s license.
Preferred QualificationsAssociates and/or certification in AV related field (AMX, Crestron, Extron) or a combination of education and experience. A+ certification desired but not required. Community college experience preferred. Global Viewer and Room Viewer Experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesPrior working experience with A/V technology (Projectors, motorized screens, Crestron or Extron control panels, Hardware/software codecs, audioconferencing equipment, etc.) Employee must possess the ability to interpret wiring diagrams, research and suggest emerging AV equipment trends as needed. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems with various classroom technologies. Understanding of how AV equipment interfaces with computer technology. The ability to demonstrate and instruct users in the use of hardware and software. The employee should be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of clients and coworkers. The employee should have the ability to set his/her own priorities and meet tactical project deadlines. The employee must have proven ability to assimilate new technical skills; both in the A/V space as well as the desktop support space. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to follow directions and pay close attention to detail. Ability to supervise others and delegate task as needed.
Flexibility of scheduling to work evening and weekends.
