Job Description:


ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:


Reports to: Associate Vice President of Finance and Assistant Treasurer


Supervises: None


Mills College is seeking a Budget Analyst. With an annual budget of $66 Million, the Budget Analyst will work with all aspects of Mills' budget. The Budget Analyst will report directly to the AVP Finance and Assistant Treasurer to provide detailed analysis and reports that inform and facilitate executive-level decision making on issues of financial importance.


As a key member of the finance team, this position plays a central role in key strategic budgetary projects, the development of annual and quarterly forecasting, trend analysis, and more, while maintaining the highest level of integrity. The ability to synthesize financial information and provide sound advice to researchers, administrators, faculty, and core leaders of Mills College will also be essential to be successful in this opportunity.

Essential Job Functions


  • Provides assistance to the AVP Finance and Assistant Treasurer in interpreting and ensuring compliance with internal and external policies, procedures and guidelines (such as IRS, federal and other sponsored agencies, etc.) which may require keeping current on related regulations or compliance standards
  • Reports on budget vs. actual results and investigates variances
  • Provides analytical support for budget projects.
  • Preparation of budget and financial reports, as requested.
  • Work closely with other members of the Finance team to prepare annual budget, monthly/quarterly financial review and reports, quarterly forecasting, multi-year budgets, and year-end close.
  • Analyzes past, present, and future trends in order to predict future financial performance.
  • Consistent evaluations of current processes and systems, while recommending appropriate changes to best practices.
  • Works on budget issues, which may include reviewing, researching, and recommending alternative budget strategies.
  • Assistance with analysis, projections, financial reporting necessary for annual budget and plan submission or other requests by Mills College Administration
  • Analysis of accounts for explanation of variances from budget for leadership, faculty and staff


Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or other related field required
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience such as budget, strategic planning, data analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze financial data, conduct appropriate research and communicate effectively with internal and external users
  • In-depth knowledge of budgetary procedures and best practices. Ability to synthesize information and provide advice to researchers, administrators, faculty, and business managers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication in daily interactions. Proven ability to clearly articulate specific information in area of subject matter expertise.

Preferred:


  • Three years of related business experience working in an analytical or accounting support function
  • 3-5 years of experience with a financial ERP and reporting, understanding summary and detailed reports, reading various financial statements and researching issues using the detail, Ellucian Banner preferred.
  • Ability to query, run reports, and enter data into database systems. Knowledge of reporting and budget systems within a higher education environment is preferred.

Some grant experience with building budgets, periodic monitoring and producing final financial reports



Additional Information:


This is a full-time, exempt position with an FTE of 1.0. Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance, 403(b) retirement plan with college-matching after 6 month qualifying period, 10 days of vacation for year one, 15 days of vacation for years 2-10, and 22 days of vacation years 10+ plus, 12 sick days and 17 paid holidays (subject to annual review).
