Essential Functions:
The ideal candidate will share Reedley College's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. As of the 2017-2018 academic year, we currently enroll over 16,000 students of which 71% are Latinx, 6% are Asian/Pacific Islander, 2% are Black/African American, 17% are White, 1% American Indian/Alaska Native, and 2% are multiracial. Reedley College is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves.
Under administrative direction, the Career and Transitions Counselor/Coordinator will provide academic counseling to dual enrollment and general population students and coordination of enrollment and onboarding efforts to help support pathways to college among impacted groups within our service areas. Duties of the Career, Transfer and Transitions Counselor/Coordinator will including the following:
  • Providing the total range of community college counseling services, including career and educational planning, orientation, assessment interpretation, transfer, student outreach and personal counseling;

  • Assisting students in the development of a student education plan (SEP);

  • Instructing counseling classes for college success, career planning, study skills and transfer preparation;

  • Planning and conducting multi-media classroom presentations and large presentations;

  • Implementing retention strategies;

  • Integrating technology into counseling functions;

  • Working collaboratively with faculty members, counselors, staff and administration;

  • Participating in the implementation of Student Equity activities and Student Support Services Program activities;

  • Planning, implementing and assessing student learning outcomes and program level outcomes to improve student learning;

  • Performing other established duties and responsibilities of counselors;

  • Assisting in the building of collaborative relationships with college faculty and high schools;

  • Providing information on the college and promoting academic pathways on behalf of the college;

  • Providing support for enrollment and onboarding activities for identified groups of students and communicating regularly with high schools, students, parents, counselors, and faculty as a primary contact on campus for dual enrollment;

  • Ensuring that the guidelines and requirements for high school faculty are in compliance with Reedley College's dual enrollment program;

  • Maintaining dual enrollment handbook for the college and local high schools;

  • Working with the webmaster, develop a website to have continuously updated information available for high schools and the community;

  • Assisting in coordination of Wonderful/Ag Prep program, including summer camp planning and facilitation;

  • Collaborating with deans and faculty to build academic pathways;

  • Participating in department meetings and regional and statewide workshops, meetings and activities, and other related functions;

  • Assuming such other duties as may be assigned by the Dean of Students;

  • Participating in department, division, and college committees;

  • Working assignments in a variety of settings and time, including evenings and/or weekends as needed (Note: counseling/coordination duties will often take place off-campus at our partner high school sites in our service area); and

  • Otherwise fulfilling all the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s in in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling;

    OR

  • A valid California Community College Credential;

    OR

  • The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices. (NOTE: A bachelor’s degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience in designing and preparing Student Educational Plans (SEPs) for community college students;
  • Experience teaching courses in career and personal development;
  • Experience in developing and presenting counseling related workshops and orientation sessions;
  • Experience providing counseling and follow-up services to students on probation or academic dismissal status;
  • Knowledge of California Community Colleges matriculation processes;
  • Knowledge of student development theories pertaining to community college students;
  • Ability to connect students with on/off campus resources to assist them in their college life management;
  • Ability to use a broad range of technology pertaining to data collection and analysis for student success;
  • Ability to work closely with faculty in academic divisions and engage in collegial dialogue on issues of student success;
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and best practices in education;
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience working with individuals of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds;
  • Experience with dual enrollment and K-12;
  • Recent experience working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusions of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
  • Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom;
  • Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth; and
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.


Conditions of Employment:
177 - 181 duty days per year.

Salary and Benefits:
Starting salary is $55,650 - $85,675 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,082 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher’s Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement. From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview. The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President of Student Services and College President for final interviews. A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval. State Center Community College District (SCCCD) was formed in 1964 when it assumed control of Fresno City College and Reedley College. SCCCD serves approximately one million people and 18 unified and high school districts in more than 5,500 square miles of urban and rural territory, including most of Fresno and Madera counties and portions of Kings and Tulare counties. SCCCD is governed by a seven-member board of trustees who represent seven trustee areas. Total district enrollment for the fall semester 2012 is over 34,000 students. SCCCD is a merit system district with over 2,300 faculty and classified staff represented by the California School Employees Association (CSEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). The total operating budget for SCCCD in 2012-13 is $168 million. 

Fresno City College, established in 1910, enrolls in excess of 22,000 students and offers more than 100 associate of arts and science degree programs and 60 certificate of achievement programs in vocational/occupational areas. Reedley College, established in 1926, is located in Reedley (approximately 25 miles southeast of Fresno) and enrolls approximately 6,200 students in a variety of courses and degree programs in occupational education and the arts and sciences. SCCCD operates three educational centers with a combined enrollment of approximately 8,300 students. The Willow International, Madera and Oakhurst centers offer programs in general education for transfer and two-year degrees. In addition, the district offers occupational and technical training at its Career and Technology Center and the Training Institute.
