Position Description:  Fort Hays State University is seeking a dynamic individual to lead the University’s Office of Admissions.  The successful candidate will have a history of creating internal and external collaborative environments by promoting and supporting open dialogue in all aspects of their work.  The Director will work with all stakeholders to help the FHSU meet strategic enrollment goals.  The Director will be responsible for the development of professional staff members in the Office of Admissions; assign responsibilities; report on progress; evaluate performance; offer professional development; provide leadership for the university's prospective student recruitment and yield initiatives; participate in strategic enrollment planning, oversee admissions marketing, team building, goal setting, advising on recruiting policies and procedures, and assessment of Office of Admissions operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • Five years of professional work experience in higher education admissions, recruitment, or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of high quality written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of FERPA and higher education regulations
  • Demonstrated ability in public speaking to large and diverse audiences
  • Project management experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work with established budgets
  • Marketing experience

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Office of Admissions and professional staff, their projects and responsibilities; review/approve requests for vacation/absence; ensure appropriate office coverage.
  • Delegate, assignment and review work, make recommendations in all areas related to supervision, including but not limited to hiring, performance review, training and career development of personnel.
  • Keep current with demographic and the ever-changing mediums of prospective student recruitment and engagement.  
  • Manage all prospective and admitted students through the enrollment funnel and advise on improvements to operations.
  • Provide leadership for all on and off-campus recruitment initiatives for all future Tigers. 
  • Collaborate with the Chief Communications Officer in all recruitment marketing, social media, and communications including FHSU Viewbook, mailings, the Office of Admissions website; assist in prospect development and name purchasing strategies.
  • Analyze data and provide assessment, long-range planning, team building, goal setting, and outcome measurement activities of the Office of Admissions.
  • Lead weekly staff meetings in conjunction with admissions leadership staff; conduct semi-annual professional staff retreats; provide leadership to assistant directors who are new staff trainers.
  • Be a Functional Lead for the University’s Implementation/development of a CRM system; Workgroup Co-Lead for new FHSU Strategic Enrollment Plan.
  • Participate on various university committees and with external organizations, such as KACRAO.
  • Support Assistant Vice President (AVP) in developing, evaluating, interpreting, and enforcing admissions policies, procedures, and strategies; in collaboration with the AVP, make or approve decisions which may establish or alter policies, procedures, or operations; participate in the development of the university-wide enrollment policy, as well as work closely with various offices across the university on recruitment, outreach efforts, and communications.
  • Assist freshman with scholarship initiatives by collaborating with the AVP Enrollment Management, Office of Financial Assistance, Student Fiscal Services, Honors College, and academic departments.
  • Coordinate, review, and collaborate with the Honors College for the Honors College application and review process.
  • Direct and manage the Office of Admissions in compliance with student-athletes and the NCAA.
