Job Summary (Purpose and Function):

Generate teletherapy and brachytherapy isodose plans for radiation therapy treatments. Assist with special procedures, i.e., fabricate customized radiation treatment accessories, in-vivo dosimetry, prepare sealed-radioactive source and assist with brachytherapy procedures, etc. Assist radiation oncologists during conventional or 3-D simulation to ensure appropriate treatment plans. Assist physicist with radiation machine quality assurance procedures.

Accountabilities

Generate isodose plans for teletherapy (conventional, 3-D conformal and IMRT) and for brachytherapy (interstitial and intracavitary). Assist in planning and performing special procedures; fabricate compensators, custom blocks and other assisting devices for treatment. Assist the radiation oncologists during simulations (conventional or virtual 3-D) to acquire all information necessary for developing proper treatment plans. Assist the physicists in the preparation and care of radioactive sources and applicators for interstitial and intracavitary brachytherapy; function as assistant to the radiation oncologist in the absence of the oncology nurse; and assist in the radiation safety survey and monitoring related to radioactive source implant procedures. Coordinate other departmental personnel during dosimetry-related interactions. Capture and verify all billing codes related to dosimetry procedures and those assigned special procedures. Assure quality assurance of patient’s setup parameters.

Prepare daily set-up notes and review all patient treatment records to verify that all functions and entries conform to the prescription ordered by the radiation oncologist and inform the radiation physicist, radiation oncologist, and chief therapist of any discrepancies. Assist the physicist in procedures related to radiation machine periodic QA, IMRT QA, etc. Available to assist Radiation Therapist when appropriate. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Essential Requirements):

  • At least three years of full time experience in dosimetry
  • Eligible for certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board
  • MDCB certification preferred
  • Proton Experience preferred
