The ideal candidate is a seasoned data abstractor that has successfully worked with clinicians in a hospital or clinical setting on outcome measures, participated in high performing teams to improve performance. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to produce high level and accurate presentations, excellent attention to detail, clear articulate communication, ability to receive feedback constructively, and demonstrated ability to work with team members to effectively present reports and analysis.

Responsible to perform high-quality data abstraction, compilation, validation, and submission for assigned Quality Data Registry. Support established quality registry data processes and strategic patient safety / quality initiatives for UHealth, inclusive of outcomes assigned to the Department’s Quality Improvement and Data Analytic Unit. Ensure all work products are compliant with national recognized patient care processes and clinical outcomes. Sustain fluency in the assigned Quality Data Registry and consistently apply best practices. Accountable to meet deadlines, ensure accuracy of work products, prepare and present outcome reports. Able to function well under timeline commitments. 

  • Perform assigned aspects of the registry of focus and meet established deadlines, and adhere to data definitions provided by the registry of focus, and maintain superior understanding of registry of focus, and any additional assigned registry of focus.
  • Perform data collection, data entry, abstraction, aggregation, validation, and analysis.
  • Utilize the Electronic Health Record (EHR), EHR reports, and any other appropriate resource to obtain valid, reliable data.
  • Utilize software applications for data collection and analysis.
  • Validate, prepare, and submit timely quarterly data harvests.
  • Collaboratively review outcomes with team members and/or leadership and ensure deliverable support continuous performance improvement of the assigned registry of focus.  
  • Collaboratively work to identify and verify patients for inclusion, identify and verify criteria and protocols for inclusion/exclusion, obtain clinical interpretation of data elements, and to support performance improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with manager to quantify, monitor, and identify changes in the number of cases for assigned registry.
  • Collaborate with providers, clinicians, and other professionals to ensure compliance with documentation.
  • Complete requested data abstraction training programs, participate in program teleconferences, and participate in various seminars and quality improvement trainings.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to optimize workflow, productivity, and effectiveness.
  • Prepare briefings and outcome reports that allows for meaningful decision-making.
  • Follow up and follow through on assigned action items for various projects, meetings, and committees.
  • Monitor assigned quality indicators in order to track and trend, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Produce reports and communications that meet stakeholder’s expectations, and positively contribute to the defined objective(s).
  • Coordinate and assist with preparatory activities for external surveys and visits, and data audits; and, assist with data analysis, reports and presentations for departmental committees, meetings, and projects.
  • Collaboratively cross-train on all assignments to ensure appropriate back up support, and to provide back up support to identified team member(s).
  • Participate in departmental and unit meetings and trainings during University business hours.

Minimum Required Education:

Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s preferred. Degree in Engineering, Information Management, Mathematics, Business, or equivalent preferred. Working experience may be substituted for Degree major.

Preferred Licensure: Clinical licensure.

Minimum Required Experience:

Minimum 1 year of direct experience with outcome measure retrospective abstraction, and/or abstracting data for clinical databases, and clinical data validation.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with the identified Registry of Focus, knowledge of other identified Registries, and knowledge of medical terminology/disease registry data.
  • Experience supporting clinical quality or process improvement initiatives in a complex hospital system environment, and experience tracking health information through various sources.
  • Experience identifying opportunities to report registry data to various meetings and committees.
  • Knowledge of healthcare quality and outcomes measurement and reporting.
  • Experience using electronic medical records.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
