Fitness Assistant - University Recreation - 500056

SUMMARY:

Monitor the fitness spaces in the Weinstein Center for Recreation to ensure cleanliness, safety, and supervision of the facility and its members. Assist with daily operations of the facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Circulate during shift and maintain a visible presence in the facility, with a focus on monitoring the upstairs and downstairs fitness spaces.
  • Assist members with questions on how to use equipment properly.
  • Provide safety assistance in the weight room (spotting) as needed.
  • Perform preventative maintenance of fitness equipment (ensure members re-rack weights, clean equipment, organize multipurpose rooms and stretching spaces, etc.).
  • Accurately explain policies & procedures related to group exercise, personal training, and fitness special events.
  • Insure all facility supplies are maintained (paper towels, hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes, cleaning spray bottles). Work with On-duty Facility Supervisor to access supplies.
  • Enforce policies and procedures, and provide customer service by answering any questions members may have while on the floor.
  • Assist with any set up/break down or special projects as assigned
  • Collect towels from all towels bins, locker rooms, and sheets from the massage room
  • Wash, dry, and fold towels to maintain inventory on racks
  • Report maintenance and other repair needs to the Manager-Equipment & Facilities, Manager-Fitness & Facilities, and/or On-duty Facility Manager
  • Serve as a first responder in the event of an emergency in the Weinstein Center.
  • Attend and participate in departmental employee training programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current CPR/AED certification required within 30 days of hire
  • Ability to read, interpret and enforce policies and procedures

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Some High School
  • Previous experience in a recreation facility preferred

WORK HOURS:

  • Part-time, temporary, non-exempt position
  • Must be available to work Monday=Friday between the hours of 6:00 a.m. - midnight and 8:00 a.m. - midnight on weekends as-needed basis
  • This position works less than 1,000 hours per year

SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 1 (Starting at $11.30 per hour)
