The Counseling Center houses Counseling, and Accessibility services. We offer group and individual counseling for enrolled students. We work collaboratively with other units on campus, are highly involved in crisis management and academic success. Our nationally recognized outreach and prevention program are a focus for the UWG counseling center in which all staff participate in campus life. We train masters and post masters level counseling interns in our center. We are grounded in theory and approach students in a manner that is holistic, humanistic and developmental. The Counseling Center is a dynamic center, which is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic fully licensed counselor to be a member of its counseling staff. The person chosen for this position will help increase student retention, promote campus safety, and encourage student development and progress to graduation through developmental counseling and psychotherapy. Major duties and responsibilities are: provide individual and group psychotherapy for students with emotional or personal problems or conditions. Perform assessments with students referred by faculty, staff, parents or other students, to determine if they are a danger to themselves or others or unable to care for themselves; work with counseling staff and administrators to help manage situations where students are in an emotional or behavioral crisis that puts them or others at risk. On-call, after hours emergency work is required once or twice a semester. This position has primary responsibility for liaising with the Athletics department, in providing programming that assists both Athletics and Counseling in meeting their joint goals, such as drug and alcohol prevention, bystander intervention, suicide prevention, etc. This position works with team coaches, student athlete academic coordinators, and physical trainers to support, counsel and refer student athletes having personal, psychological, academic or performance difficulties. The person in this position will gain training and certification in performance psychology and related modalities.

Required Qualifications

An earned Master’s degree in counseling or related field. Three or more years working as a psychotherapist and/or with special populations required. One or more years’ experience working in higher education setting preferred. Preference given to those with experience in higher education and/or experience working with NCAA athletics. Preference given for those certified in performance/sports psychology. Must be a licensed professional counselor in a US state, and license eligible in Georgia within one year.

Preferred Qualifications Salary $35,796 minimum - $46,740 midpoint Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Those consistent with general office work. Will require some “after hours” work and flexible work scheduling. Ability to traverse campus and to carry items 15 lbs or less. Required to reside within 30 minutes of campus when working after hours on-call shift.
