Job Details

Wells College seeks applicants for the full-time (12 month) position of Director for the Book Arts Center. As Center Director, the successful candidate will oversee all aspects of our vibrant and historic Book Arts Center, including but not limited to: maintaining the book arts center building and studio spaces; managing the production and marketing of Wells College Press; running the annual Book Arts Summer Institute program; contributing to the development and marketing of various programs, lecture series, special collections, and residencies; managing budgets for the academic program, Wells College Press, and the Summer Institute; interfacing and collaborating with campus and local communities as well as regional book arts organizations; overseeing the Victor Hammer Fellow and Assistant Director; and working with the Wells College Book Arts Center Advisory Board on furthering the mission of the center.

Applicants for the position should have a minimum of a master’s degree; excellent skills in binding, letterpress printing, papermaking, and/or printmaking; good interpersonal skills; successful teaching experience in both short workshops and longer courses; a record of meeting deadlines; and a collaborative spirit. Possibilities exist depending on experience to make additional contributions to the Visual Arts Program through course instruction, involvement with the String Room Gallery or involvement with the Visual Communication, Art History, Creative Writing, and Museum Studies majors and minors.

Wells College is a nationally recognized private coeducational liberal arts college located in Aurora, New York, on the eastern shore of Cayuga Lake. It was established in 1868 by Henry Wells, founder of the Wells Fargo and American Express Companies.
