General Description
Under the direction of the Provost, COS Hanford Educational Center, in cooperation with Student Services Deans, the Center Student Services Specialist will perform a variety of student services by providing enrollment, academic, and career information to pre-college and college students.
The individual in this position will be responsible for providing information to students, prospective students and the general public thus the incumbent must be cross-trained in all student services areas to include:

- Student Services programs

- Record-keeping techniques
- College admission procedures
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
- Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary
- Word processing, presentation and spreadsheet software
- Telephone techniques and etiquette
- To communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
- Demonstrate courtesy and tact in dealing with numerous members of the professional and academic communities
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Provide support for a variety of services and activities to assist students their academic achievement and personal growth
- Maintain records and prepare reports
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Operate a computer and assigned software

Organization
College of the Sequoias is a two-year California community college offering educational and enrichment programs for the residents of its district in Tulare and Kings counties. The college was established in 1925 and moved to its current 62-acre main campus site in Visalia in 1940.
In addition to the campus in Visalia, COS operates a full-service center in Hanford that is also home to the college's police and fire academies.
COS also opened its Tulare College Center in January 2013. It is a full-service college center and the home of COS' agriculture program
