Institutional Research Analyst

Augustana College is a selective liberal arts college of approximately 2,500 students, most of whom live on a wooded 115-acre campus.  Rock Island, Illinois, is part of the Illinois-Iowa Quad Cities along the Mississippi River, a diverse metropolitan area with 400,000 residents, located about three hours west of Chicago and 45 minutes east of Iowa City, home of the University of Iowa. Our current cohort of students includes 29% first-generation students, 23% Pell Grant recipients, 21% students of color and 9% international students.

College decision makers collectively share responsibility to make and explain well-informed, responsible decisions that advance student learning, allocate resources effectively and meet the demands of external agents ranging from the Board of Trustees to the U.S. Department of Education. This position’s special responsibility will be to generate, and help others understand, the data needed to meet those goals. Supported by student staff, the Institutional Research Analyst serves as part of the productive, high-functioning team that comprises the Office of Academic Affairs. Responsibilities will evolve in response to the college’s evolving challenges.

1. Access, analyze, and summarize data for reports required by external agents such as the federal department of education, the State of Illinois, accrediting agencies, IPEDS, and others.
2. Gather, access, analyze, refine, and summarize data, required by the college’s academic administration, for resource allocation, program assessment and institutional improvement. A list of current surveys is available at the college’ Institutional Research website.

Executing these responsibilities effectively requires a demonstrated ability to:

1. Deal with confidential or sensitive information,
2. Work with a high degree of accuracy, transparency and timeliness,
3. Work effectively with limited supervision and as part of a team,
4. Communicate effectively in written and spoken English and
5. Interact extensively with user groups to understand their needs and to help them understand our research.  (A sense of humor and tolerance for ambiguity will help.)

Minimum qualifications:   Bachelor's degree and 4 years of experience in institutional research or relevant areas as well as proficiency with Excel and Access.   Master’s degree and/or experience in higher ed data management and analysis, and experience with Ellucian’s Colleague is strongly preferred
