Position Summary:
Office of Public Safety. The Public Safety Lieutenant plans, organizes, oversees, and coordinates the daily activities of the Criminal Investigations Department within the Division of Public Safety.

Essential Functions

  • Conducts investigations of criminal violations on the Georgia Southern University campus.
  • Assists in the supervision of the Department of Criminal Investigations within the Division of Public Safety.
  • Manages supervisory personnel and police officers who provide personal, real property, and equipment security throughout campus.
  • Processes crime scenes for possible evidence to identify perpetrator including but not limited to DNA testing, photographs and fingerprinting; prepares arrest warrants for subjects charged or to be charged.
  • Ensures consistent and equitable enforcement of local, state, and federal laws and university regulations.
  • Assists in managing materials, equipment, and personnel, and may also review and approve reports on incident and crime investigations.

    Minimum Education Required:
    High School Diploma; Georgia P.O.S.T (Peace Officer Standards Training) law enforcement (police) certified or have the ability to obtain P.O.S.T. certification in Georgia as a basic law enforcement officer

    Three or more years of related work experience

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    Effective communication (verbal and written), organization and human relations skills; ability to work well in a diverse environment; proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; legally authorized to work in the United States; successful completion of background investigation prior to employment.

    Preferred Education:
    Associate’s Degree or two or more years of formal technical training

    Salary Range: $47,476
