Working Hours:

Working hours for this position consist of 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, but may require evening and weekend work based on the requirements of the program and the position. Actual hours for the position will be determined between the supervisor and the employee on a term by term basis.

Travel Requirements:

Occasional travel for high school visits and other local job-related travel is necessary; employee must have access to ready transportation.

Summary:

The Advisor/Recruiter duties and responsibilities will be primarily dedicated to the Electric Utility Technology Program (EUT). The position will oversee all activities related to the College’s partnership program with First Energy Power Systems Institute (PSI), which includes program recruitment, coordinating class scheduling and advising EUT students through program completion. When not working on EUT initiatives, this individual will serve as a general advisor in the Advising Center. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as the academic advisor for students in the First Energy's Power Systems Institute (PSI) EUT AAS program; including helping students to enroll, understand and apply for financial aid, placement test, submit transcripts, connect to campus resources and to succeed academically.
  2. Monitor, track and advise students to ensure that they are “ready” (academically & technically) to start the PSI EUT program each semester.
  3. Initiate outreach and provide motivation and support to facilitate course and program completion. This may include visits to the MetEd facility to meet with students in the program.
  4. As directed and/or invited, represent the College at program related MetEd events both on campus, in the community and at the MetEd facility.  This will include, but is not limited to pole yard graduation, PSI holiday parade participation and RACC/PSI Information sessions.
  5. Act as a liaison between the College and FirstEnergy instructors and PSI staff.
  6. In collaboration with the STEM Division, help to identify, hire and orient program instructors as to College and Program policies and procedures. 
  7. Assist in recruiting students, including participating in open houses, information sessions and high school visits to promote awareness of PSI.
  8. Coordinate EUT Information sessions (minimum 2 per year) including room scheduling, reservation and set up request, determining RACC staff and speakers and general oversite during sessions.
  9. In consultation with the Academic Affairs and the Vice President of Enrollment Management assist in the preparation of class schedules, register students and coordinate text book pick up for fall, winter, spring, and summer courses in the EUT program.
  10. Collect and compile information; review and revise program literature; create and maintain reports including shared Applicant Tracking spreadsheet as required by FirstEnergy and the College.
  11. Establish and maintain relationships with FirstEnergy and other utility industry employers.
  12. Provide new and current student advising for other RACC programs through walk-in times and scheduled appointments at the Advising Center and at events such as New Student Orientation, Open Enrollment events and Welcome Week Activities.
  13. Perform other program or retention related responsibilities that may be assigned by the Vice President of Enrollment Management.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Preferred degree in Business, Technical Studies, Counseling or Human Services Field
  • One year (full time equivalency) of experience working in a counseling/advising capacity

Preferred:

  • Experience working with adult learners in a higher educational setting
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and communication skills
  • Work experience in technical business or industry training and operations
  • Bilingual communications (reading, writing and speaking) in English and Spanish is strongly preferred

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with professional staff and the public
  • Ability to work independently, with limited supervision 
  • Must demonstrate a high level of confidentiality

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual: must be proficient with word processing software, spreadsheet software and standard office equipment.  Experience with student or client tracking programs and ability to learn manufacturing technology software.

Communication Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one, small and large group situations from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate averages, percentages and sums.  

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
