Assistant Teaching Professor in Sociology

Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, is offering a two-year, full-time, non-tenure-track position to teach sociology beginning in the fall 2019 semester. Requirements of the position include teaching criminology and introductory sociology courses and administration of two minors and a certificate program related to criminology. Applicants with the ability to teach courses on family sociology, social problems, urban sociology, or gerontology will be welcome. There will be opportunities to teach upper-level sociology courses in the candidate`s area of expertise. The position requires excellence in teaching and scholarship, as well as involvement in service. The College has a public policy initiative in which successful applicants will be expected to participate and provide sociological research expertise and assistance to projects about policy issues important in northwest Pennsylvania. PhD in Sociology or a closely related field is required. The position may be renewable. Penn State Behrend is a four-year undergraduate and graduate college of Penn State University with 4,500 students and 34 baccalaureate majors in four schools: Business, Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences, and Science. The college prides itself on the balance it achieves between teaching and research, on close student/faculty interaction, on its use of the open lab concept, and on its beautiful, wooded hilltop campus.
