The On-site Coordinator serves as a professional on-site resource for students and faculty participating in the Babson-sponsored program “BRIC: The Cornerstone of the New Global Economy.” The On-Site Coordinator is specifically responsible for providing support in the areas of program coordination and delivery, academics, student support, and health and safety management. S/he must also work effectively with a team of faculty leaders, local resident staff, participating students, and visiting constituencies.

This is a temporary, non-benefits eligible position working June-December.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Coordination:

· Coordinates a week-long pre-departure orientation on Babson's campus prior to group's departure.

· Coordinates all aspects of the on-site program in accordance with Babson policies and agreements.

· Manages the on-site relationship with host program partners and institutions.

· Manages on-site program finances and submits monthly expense reports to the Director, Education Abroad.

· Helps to coordinate the visits of the program, including: providing information, coordinating schedules, communicating with on-site partners, and setting up group and/or individual meetings with students.

· Maintains weekly contact with the Director, Education Abroad on the group's well-being and program progress.

· Writes an On-Site Coordinator report at the conclusion of the program.

· Other duties as assigned.

Academic:

· Facilitates 2-credit academic course “Encounters with the BRIC: Comparative Analysis in Cross Cultural Contexts” which meets weekly throughout the semester.

· Manages communication amongst Babson College faculty, staff, and host program partners and institutions.

Student Services:

· Holds regular advising hours, confers with individual students, as necessary, and holds occasional group meetings.

· In collaboration with on-site partners, coordinates and implements aspects of on-site student services including: visas and other student related legal matters, on-site program orientation, local transportation, cross-cultural information and training, cultural, social, and volunteer activities such as program excursions and field trips, housing, personal counseling and student adjustment, student morale and culture shock, medical and psychological problems, conflict resolution, and discipline.

Health and Safety:

· Evaluates health and safety risks of the local environment, including program-sponsored accommodations, events, excursions, and other activities on site.

· In partnership with host program partners and institutions, ensures that participants receive information including safety, health, legal, environmental, political, cultural, and religious conditions in the host country, and appropriate emergency response measures throughout the program.

· Provides appropriate and timely information to participants during the program in order to help minimize risk and enhance individual safety. Responds to emergencies accordingly.

· Secures appropriate medical and professional services and helps participants obtain the services they may need, seeking consultation with Babson's provider partners abroad and Babson's Director of Counseling, as needed and appropriate.

· Maintains on-site emergency preparedness processes and crisis response in coordination with Babson's provider partners abroad and the Babson Emergency Manager, as needed and appropriate.

· Communicates applicable violations of code of conduct and the consequences of non-compliance to students. Subsequently, takes action when aware of violations by participants and communicates infractions to the Director, Education Abroad and Director, Community Standards.

Minimum Level of Education Required Bachelor's Degree required

Position Required Knowledge/Skills and Abilities Requirements:

  • At least 1-3 years of experience working in education abroad programs, residence life, or student affairs-related discipline.
  • In-depth knowledge of student developmental theory and/or intercultural development.
  • Demonstrated international living experience (familiarity with Russia, China and/or India is preferred).
  • Strong cross-cultural competencies (position serves as a mediator between American and other cultures).
  • Ability to set and manage conflicting priorities, adapt and work efficiently in a quickly changing environment, and complete tasks successfully and with composure.
  • High level of accountability, judgment, decision-making, and planning. Ability to maintain confidentiality is critical.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member as well as independently.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Envisions and proposes new methods to perform tasks that support ET&A; takes thoughtful risks; and accepts new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.
  • Anticipates and embraces change; demonstrates willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.

Working Conditions:

In addition to the pre- and post- program preparations carried out on Babson's Wellesley campus, the On-Site Coordinator must be willing to live temporarily on-site in Russia, China, and India for three months in order to coordinate the fall program delivery. The On-Site Coordinator is expected to be on call for emergency circumstances twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Please note that in accordance with Babson College policy, minors and family members may not travel with, or participate in education abroad programs sponsored or funded, in whole or in part, by the College.

Additional Experience, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Master's Degree or current enrollment in Master's Degree program strongly preferred.
  • Ability to professionally function (written/spoken) in a second language (familiarity with Russian, Chinese, and/or Hindu language is desired).
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel). Experience with TerraDotta and Blackboard is desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in multicultural and international community.
