Job Description

The Department of Biochemistry is seeking applicants to join their research team. All levels are encouraged to apply and the candidate selected will fall into one if the job levels below:

Entry level Research Scientist:
The successful applicant will assist a research team in structural biology research programs focusing on viral-host interactions and enzyme dynamics. Initial responsibilities will include the ordering of supplies, cleaning of glassware and preparation of biological and chemical reagents, some of which will require work (with training) at biosafety levels 1 & 2, all in support of staff researchers, post-doctoral fellows and graduate students in the group. With increasing experience, there may be opportunities for the applicant to perform experiments independently or alongside another team member. The position will support growth of the research program directed by the incoming chair of Biochemistry and facilitate new collaborative research initiatives across departmental lines, particularly with other groups investigating virus-host interactions. The position will contribute to primary metrics in AAU evaluation, such as citations and grant generation. The position will initially be supported from the chair’s R35 NIH grant, funded through 2022. Continuation of the position will be contingent upon continuing grant support. The incumbent will be the supporting chair’s efforts for sustained extramural funding beyond 2022.
Minimum qualification is an Associate Degree or at least 2 years of college education in science.

Mid-level Research Scientist:
The incumbent will be a research team member in structural biology research programs focusing on viral-host interactions and enzyme dynamics. The position will support growth of the research program directed by the incoming chair of Biochemistry and facilitate new collaborative research initiatives across departmental lines, particularly with other groups investigating virus-host interactions. The position will contribute to primary metrics in AAU evaluation, such as citations and grant generation. The position will initially be supported from the chair’s R35 NIH grant, funded through 2022. Continuation of the position will be contingent upon continuing grant support. The incumbent will be the supporting chair’s efforts for sustained extramural funding beyond 2022.
Minimum qualification is a Bachelor’s Degree in science.

Senior Research Scientist:
The incumbent will be a senior team member in structural biology research programs focusing on viral-host interactions and enzyme dynamics. Senior team members are responsible not only for their own research, but providing mentorship in the training of researchers at undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral levels. The position will support growth of the research program directed by the incoming chair of Biochemistry and facilitate new collaborative research initiatives across departmental lines, particularly with other virology-directed groups. The position will contribute to primary metrics in AAU evaluation, such as citations and grant generation. The position will initially be supported from the chair’s R35 NIH grant, funded through 2022. Continuation of the position will be contingent upon continuing grant support. The incumbent will be the supporting chair’s efforts for sustained extramural funding beyond 2022.
Minimum qualification is a PhD in science.
