The Department of Black Studies and Department of History at the University of Missouri, Columbia, invite applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in African History to begin Fall, 2019. This is a joint position between the Departments of Black Studies and History, but the candidate’s tenure home will be in Black Studies.Qualifications
The successful candidate must have Ph.D. in hand by the start of the appointment. ABD candidates must be prepared to send a large enough sample of their dissertation to assure us that they will have the Ph.D. in hand by Summer of 2019. All periods and specializations are welcome. We also encourage applications from historians with a focus on interdisciplinary studies in their scholarship and evidence of professional activities in Black Studies or History focused on black experiences, broadly defined. The position requires evidence of a strong research program and an ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Departments of Black Studies and History. We will ask candidates shortlisted for the position to provide a research statement and substantial writing samples.Application Materials
